Girl. This ain’t the account for you. Read any credible book on Black Feminist Thought from the 21st century. You could read one of mine. Or you could read my white feminist colleague Kyla Schuller’s book “The Trouble with White Women.” Now go away.

Racism perpetuates division. Not those who call it out.
get the kid in the brown hoodie a scholarship
I want the patriarchs and aspirational patriarchs to go first. But also: just like we have to undo internalized racism, we have to undo internalized patriarchy. However, I don’t know that you and I agree on what internalized patriarchy looks like, bc “male roles” as a phrase does not compute for me.
Post of Trump portraying the Obamas as apes Post of Trump admin barring calling Medgar Evers' killer a "racist"
Perfect combo here.
All people flying first class are participating for greater or lesser reasons in a form of class theater that works primarily by making folks feel more dominant. I fly first class on long haul flights because I’m fat and need the space, but my “noble” reasons don’t change the class dynamics.
A lot in this question. In the 1960s the US Govt pathologized Black women and accused them of stunting Black families by being heads of household. So I tend to reject white racist ideas that assert that Black women leading Black families is the cause of social ills. It’s a terrible analysis.
As I said, I work in racial justice movements which definitely, therefore, do not center Blue Dog democrats. Anyway, if you feel your communist anarchist set has excellent gender politics and analyses great. I don’t believe it, but I don’t care enough to argue the point.
I’m not talking about writers. I’m talking about movements.
Black feminists have written extensively about white women and their role in patriarchy.
Named in the Epstein files.
I’m a feminist in left movements. Our gender analysis always lags behind other more radical analyses of race and class and I say this as a Black feminist who is in racial justice movements primarily.
There are so many guys. The whole point is they are all invested in patriarchy, whatever their position relative to left or right politics.
It’s like how half of the hustle of flying first class is that other people can’t do it. The seats are better but they aren’t that great for the level of money being paid. Airlines play on folks need to feel distinctive and different even if the inducements are costly and paltry.
They have to externalize the emptiness. They have to make all that inequality visible in order for them to *feel* as powerful as their money says they are. They have to dominate everyone and everything in order to feel like the gods they believe they should be. Newsflash: it still won’t be enough.
Domination is the only thing that gives emotional meaning to having all that power. They have more money than can be spent in a million lifetimes, but money can’t buy happiness. It can buy the power to induce collective misery, which will feel something when too much money still feels like nothing.
It feels worth saying that the thing that unifies men as disparate as Noam Chomsky, Deepak Chopra and Trump is patriarchy. Patriarchy, hatred of women, and the need to dominate them, persists across race and class status. Left movements refuse a robust analysis of persisting gender violence.
FYI:
In 1916 the U.S. signed an agreement for control of St. Thomas, St. John & St. Croix, known as the “Danish West Indies,” in exchange for $25 million & a declaration that the U.S. would “not object to the Danish Govt extending their political & economic interests to the whole of Greenland.
The whole point of being an academic is that you need to be willing to spend three days creating a 700-word footnote that you will later delete. And you need to LIKE IT.
% Black tenure-track faculty doesn't increase--it declines between 2004 and 2024!
The Compact piece uses various subsets to highlight the small amounts of diversification in humanities & some social science. That's fine, but worth taking a step back to the complete data
Got some figures from the @lachlanmcnamee.bsky.social Salma Mousa & @kylepeyton.bsky.social DEI analysis from 4.67 million employment records at US public universities (1993-2024)
Compact article gets it backwards. Unis diversified *leadership* not faculty.
Attacks on academic freedom are off the chain right now. But we are a mighty bunch when we stick together.
They put it there so he can find it on days when the dementia is winning I’m sure.
She didn’t even say a disparaging word. Why are Black women the casualties of white men’s wars?
Among the things I am thinking abt is how the left fared after Breitbart died, and after Scalia died. And wondering how things will go this time. And now going back to my fiber crafts and gardening. (I finally have some tomatoes.)
Yes. Nell Painter’s bio of Truth is the one to make this argument.
Thank you!
Thank you!
“Oh I will just take a break until this blows over.”
THIS is all there is unless and until people make something different.
If I can be real for a moment, what frightens me most right now is that David Brooks is more upset about Trump-Musk than many, maybe most, liberal pundits and Democratic leaders are.
