I have worked a week of 12 hour days.
Today I am layed out and not doing anything that isn't about me and mine.
I have a practice of giving Black Business the same grace+10 I give white ones b/c I know they are trying to compete w/ less capital and I also over-compensate for internalized anti-blackness that's a cancer a lot of us don't talk about.
They always put these "gaming cafe's" in economically depressed communities so suck out the small amount of money these poor people have.

I was talking to one of my students about this. 31 y/o mother of 4 who admitted that the reason she's late for her 4 hour night class is becuase she cooks for her kids EVERYDAY.
She showed me her IG with her meals and I might let her wife me! 😋🤤
(Kidding. but the food looked amazing)
As a result they will dismiss their own acheiments.
A great mechanic will not think she is worth much b/c she didn't go to college.
Homemakers often downplay all the amazing work they do b/c women have an expectation of endless servitude.

It's important to praise kids for the little things as well as the big things. If you only get praise when you meet someone's requirement of "excellence" that is narrow in scope but maybe, for some, unacheivable, a feeling of being inadequate follows you as an adult.
I teach a work skills class @ a Community College.
A recurring theme with my Black & Latine students is getting them to recognize their skills because their skills & talents were always framed as "what you're supposed to do"
Black excellence can be a problem.
I was a MS teacher during the height of Twilight popularity and my kids didn't understand why I was Team Jacob.
I would just say
"Edward? Ew. No. He old. And creepy. Ew"
