Paranoid Time is the debut EP by American hardcore punk band Minutemen, released in December 1980
It was the second release from the SST record label founded by Greg Ginn and Chuck Dukowski.
Album cover by Raymond Pettibon
American punk rock was a great family π
"For Kurt this was a chance to prove he was more than just βthe grunge guyβ, more than screaming and volume and smelling like teen spirit; something that was important to him if he was to have a future in music. He was also, however, terrified."
Nirvana do MTV Unplugged:
I love the Vivian Girls but never saw them play live. Plenty of great clips on YouTube but this film of a short set at the Whitney Museum is my favorite. Tell the World is such a jam.

ALBUM OF THE WEEK: 'Nobody Loves You More' by Kim Deal
Dealβs solo debut has been in the works for some years, but the wait has been worth it as she delivers an eclectic work balancing grief-themed numbers with adventurous indie rock.

The Raincoats is the debut studio album by the English punk rock / post punk band The Raincoats, which was released on this day in 1979.
The album contains an unusual version of "Lola" by the Kinks.

I'm also listening to this new Ava Mendoza album from Palilalia this morning and it's awesome. Was like "oh she sings too!?"
In advance of her sublime debut solo album, which arrives Friday, I interviewed the wonderful Kim Deal for @mojomagazine.bsky.social. She's the absolute best. www.mojo4music.com/articles/sto...
So, Ava Mendoza...
Have the free jazz/ metal-adjacent heads heard this 2023 album?

If anyone is starting to do end of year polls I strongly recommend considering Sealionwoman - Nothing will Grow in the Soil. Probably won't get too much coverage but it's one of the best of year if you ask me.

Rip-off of Start Me Up or loving homage? Either way I like LRM a lot more.
Wow, this sounds incredible. Thanks for the suggestion, Iβm going to check out the whole thing.
Oh no! Its the Cassette Label Starter Pack π² go.bsky.app/3TNe26v
I would agree with that. Repent was actually my first Dead C album. Picked it up from a local record store and it took me a while to wrap my head around. Meanwhile Harsh 70s Reality became the gateway album thatβs still my favorite.
Give five desert island discs, off the top of your head. No straight white men.
Coltrane and Ali - Interstellar Space
Sleater-Kinney - The Hot Rock
Bad Brains - s/t
Angelβin Heavy Syrup - IV
Bjork - Homogenic
Great to see you here. Enjoyed your posts at the previous place. Keep the videos coming!
I've started a #postrock #drone starter pack actually in the hopes that #kranky etc. start accounts here. It's a fairly social media shy genre. π€Very incomplete! go.bsky.app/5BcTh5g

Oh yeah? Name twenty-five of their albums.
Fortunate to see them play many times when I lived in Seattle. Always fantastic. I remember a variant lineup (drummerless, I think) that played live as Herzog.
Here you go, a starter pack of Independent Record Shops to follow (pass it on, guessing theyβd appreciate that) go.bsky.app/FFCkVXG
