I had an energy assessment done today. Assessor was disparaging about my existing central heating system. Said he thought I must have had a family member install it. Eh,no actually was Scottish Gas install funded by Scotgov. Interesting nonetheless
Iβve had no heating or hot water since 1st January and can confirm that after 4 days my grey matter is pretty sluggish, even wearing a hat.
As itβs just me for Christmas dinner (and I wanted leftovers) I made Sainsburyβs Dinner in a box. Turkey is beautifully un-dry. As are all the βroastβ vegetables and wet vegetables do not roast! Luckily air fryer has saved the day so all good!
One personβs βgaming the systemβ is another personβs βrightfully accessing support to accurately represent their needs to a hostile and uncaring systemβ. Often the former person has no actual experience of the latter.
As UK HE is facing dramatic redundancies accross the sector. #REF2029 could enable output portability or better give authors βrefβ ownership. Colleagues who need to find new academic homes can stand a chance for potential jobs in the run up to 2029!

Sad he has been reduced to the person who punched.
Please support @wecarecampaign.bsky.social. Katy has achieved incredible things over the last six years but she needs to keep fighting for #UnpaidCarers.

Do I think there should be more men in social work? Yes. Do I think those advocating for this should take a bit of care in how they present their arguments? Also yes.
Why would that upset them?
If youβre a parent of a disabled child who relies on the LA to provide transport to school, please consider taking part in this survey.
Contact A Family are campaigning for better transport to school, esp for those who are not of statutory school age. #SEND

Earlier the MOT cost was my biggest distress but the loss of the doofer is catching up!
You definitely win! Ouch!
This has not been a good day. MOT cost me nearly Β£1000 AND I have lost the remote control for my telly.
Entirely predictable and intended anyway
Scope and JRF logos
Govt has committed to Β£3bn cuts to health/disability benefits. But targeting arbitrary savings (set by previous Govt) won't lead to effective reforms that unlock work, and risks deeper hardship for disabled people.
New @jrf-uk.bsky.social / Scope report shows the changes we really needπ§΅1/12
Absolutely no surprise to anyone who was paying attention Iβm sure; along with the closures of Sure Start, this amounted to basic social vandalism. Good to see the research though.

Managed to convince a friend with young children to let me chum her to see Paddington in Peru at the cinema this week. Feels like the right way to do it.
Statutory social work is an interesting concept. Many SW students think only LAs do statutory social work & also there are LA SW staff who think all of their work is statutory social work. Neither is correct but these views may well explain satisfaction, or not, around some placement experiences.
Join me for this lunchtime webinar where I will discuss how the public actually quite like social workers, and ask the important question: why don't you believe me??
Fri, 29 Nov 2024 12:00 - 13:00 GMT. Book here:

I will bring this service to Bluesky.
Iβm alright. Navigating a restructure and lots of voluntary severance at work, but it is also nearly the end of the teaching semester, so will soon be able to relax with some marking π
Just as long as you remember your public service announcements about what day it is over the Festives, all will be well
It really is lovely to see people again. I was putting it off for ages, but the vibe is so much more pleasant. So far anyway! Hope you are well?
Block lists where necessary and strategic non-engagement should do the trick. π€

I was thinking the same myself, but then I shoved the thought back in my head lest the optimism is ruinous!
Yip. Colleagues struggling to get to end of semester. Seems like every week there is something new. So many people still seem surprised when they find out though. Our local newspaper did run an article & one of its readers suggested if we cut out the βwoke crapβ we can easily lose 80% of staffβ¦
