Recycling Myth: Emo rockers don't give a fork about recycling. This is simply untrue; studies show that 84% of Emo Rockers feel that recycling is a valuable tool in waste diversion. 74% of fans of Waldorf-based "Good Charlotte" say they know this is the anthem and to throw out your plastic utensils. 95% of fans of "Paramore" say that when they sing "Ain't it fun" that they sing "Ain't it fun, then under their breath say " toooo Recycle". Wow...With numbers like that, it's almost like we made that all up. And we did. However, it's important never to judge a book by its cover. It takes a community to participate in waste diversion efforts. So whether that means we're crying to Dashboard Confessionals or debating if Straylight Run was better than Taking Back Sunday. Reducing, Reusing, Refusing, Recycling, and letting things Rot (Compost) takes everyone contributing in multiple ways. It doesn't have to be a dirty little secret. #FrederickRecycles
A guy with swoopy hair and dressed in black next to text that says โI donโt give a fork about recyclingโ
as Montgomery County prices its elder emos out, Frederick County government welcomes our elder emos with open arms and terrible band puns. we must do better
I grumble about the Fillmore as a venue but it always feels special going there. as a 19yo blogger in 2007 I tracked the fight to bring it to Silver Spring and had a small role in making it happen. 20 years later I can see my favorite bands play 5 minutes from my house and thatโs really cool.
the *symbolism* of seeing the wonder years, a band from philly that made philly feel at home when I lived there, in silver spring, my hometown and where the show the wonder years is named after is based on ๐ฅน
as a frequent @citycastdc.bsky.social guest I am excited to see them expanding into original reporting, which is so necessary right now!!
thatโs a good question. I assumed the city of Rockville is responsible for Wootton Parkway, but they could have still gotten county or state money for those improvements
one thing I will say about municipalities is that they seem to be better at pedestrian safety stuff because they are smaller and can be more responsive to these concerns
this was an executive order issued in 2024! the earlier speed bump process required 80% approval from nearby residents, so that logic 70% is an improvement I guess
The most handsome dog youโve ever seen standing in the middle of the street with a bulldozer behind him
The most handsome dog youโve ever seen looking at some freshly poured concrete with warning strips denoting curb ramps. There are construction barrels around them.
what a trip it is to walk through an active construction site with your dog and say, all of this is for you. I am doing all of this because you saved my life six years ago and I will do anything to keep you safe. love you buddy
weโre also trying to get two speed bumps installed on the block where the driver hit us. per an order from @mcgexec.bsky.social weโll have to get 70% of our neighbors to say yes. weโll do it, but what an absurd process. thankfully, the next county executive can fix this.
The most handsome dog you have ever seen is looking towards an intersection, surrounded by a bunch of orange construction barrels. In the distance are construction equipment, and men working.
itโs been 10 months since a driver hit my dog and I and this morning @mcdotnow.bsky.social is installing a crosswalk at that intersection. I am deeply grateful. that said, people shouldnโt have to beg Montgomery County for basic pedestrian amenities, and that needs to change.
A DC Urban Moms (and Dads) forum post reading โdog poop everywhere, courtesy of the YIMBYsโ and โThis is why people don't want missing middle coming to their neighborhood. High density = low class.โ before linking to a Reddit post
Part of a reply that reads โThere is literally no evidence the people who don't pick up their poop are living in missing middle housing. None whatsoever.โ
The movement has grown more powerful than I dared to imagine, with command over both man *and* beast (no thatโs not me in the replies)
I suppose it's an honor that the Maryland Association of Counties is "sounding the alarm" on the bill @acornpark.bsky.social and I wrote ahead of our hearing on Thursday. we've arrived ๐ฅฒ

when Kristin ran for Council in 2022 I was really excited to have a new voice in East County who *got it* when it came to housing and transportation, but since then it feels like one disappointment after another
Bus lanes on Route 29 have been discussed since the 1990s, when Kristin Mink was growing up in Four Corners and her neighbors were still fighting it then. I don't understand how anyone, especially her, could say that there hasn't been enough input.
so fascinating to me when people's progressivism stops at bus riders
Mink is a fierce advocate for the marginalized--unless they ride the bus
guy in the WeWork kitchen asks about my Dashboard Confessional shirt and is like "weren't they on that show" and I say "you mean the short-lived ABC teen drama Life As We Know It, which lasted one season and also starred Kelly Osbourne????" he didn't, but real ones know LAWKI
fascinating: birdwatchers say crows have been roosting on Rockville Pike by whatโs now Pike and Rose as far back as the 1950s wapo.st/4aJyWzN
view from a car stopped at a light on rockville pike. itโs sunset and there are red taillights in the foreground. in the sky are dozens and dozens of crows. so many crows
I was on Rockville Pike tonight admiring the hundreds of thousands of crows known to live there near Montrose Road. seeing them at sunset was one of my favorite things about living there, a constant reminder that no matter where you go, nature finds a way
okay now the โstuff to skeetโ folder is officially closed ๐ฎโ๐จ thank you for your support during this trying time
and finally: @beyonddc.bsky.social shared this 2016 video about how to ride the DC Streetcar (RIP). the guy needs to learn how to do this so he can go on a date! to me, personally, this is hot ggwash.org/view/102387/...

The mayorโs attempt at enforcing her idea of civility only prompted more shouting, after which she said: โIโm not going to argue. If I hear any more clapping or disruption from the crowd, I will have to unfortunately have you all removed.โ โDo it now! Do it to me!โ David Reed, 77, a Takoma Park resident, yelled, according to the cityโs video recording of the meeting. More applause followed. โYouโre not the dictator of the council!โ Paul Huebner, 75, a retired project manager, shouted. โThis is outrageous!โ

some grumble about โluxury apartmentsโ but they provide an option to higher-income renters who still canโt get into a houseโand thus arenโt competing with lower-income renters for apartments
