I think some people were so hung up on it not being the Silmarillion beat for beat that they couldn't enjoy it for what it is. I'll admit that S1 took a while to get going but once it flushed out characters, their relationship's, & set the stakes which S2 builds on I've been pretty happy with it.
A mix of hot and cold compresses helped manage some of my pain when I had lower back issues, I hope you feel better soon dude.
Finishing up the trilogy on Tolkien's birthday seems fitting.
