Love how Bay Area writers shine light on each other!
Love how Bay Area writers shine light on each other!
Both happened to me over last weekend!
What are you doing this evening? Sharing poems you love, you wrote, you invented on the spot around a table in Kerouac Alley at 5 pm, yes?
Somehow I think the moonness of last night was related to my total inability to sleep last night
My snobbiness is reserved for people who say they're letterpress printers but when asked for detail, they're just putting photopolymer plates on the press, not hand setting wood or lead type.
I've done both and I'm fucking clear on which one is actually a skilled trade and craft.
This is some 19th century Jacksonian business!
ICE has arrested and detained a Nashville journalist who reported stories critical of ICE. Sheβs married to a U.S. citizen and has been seeking asylum here after fleeing death threats in Colombia because of her journalism there.
Theyβve already sent her to Louisiana.
WORDS by Robert Creeley.
Whatcha been reading?
Whew, this is sharp as nails.
Yeah I read my dissertation 10 years later and was like, damn, that girl could really think!
Lily-like plant with white flowers in a backyard garden
Second year blooming after 5 years of waiting on this death camas. Gardening with California native plants definitely gives me a new appreciation for the difference in time that goes into equally beautiful flowers. Perennials are playing long, long game, at least from my blinkered human perspective.
Also, I think she's joined a neighborhood cat gang. I'm wondering if she went into heat or something? Two grey & white cats I've never seen before have been yowling around the house and I saw her slinking around with one of them today.
Have reached out to a local cat rescue for help.....
Update! The cat has decided to live under my house. I have texted the former neighbor to let her know, but never heard back. We are putting a little food out, and she seems like she's getting bolder and curious, coming up to the door etc. which is stressing out my elderly cat of course.
I just bought a book of poetry because there's one in it titled "I tell Etel Adnan About Mitski" -- we're here!
i know people on here don't rly care about culture coverage but sharing because I'm proud I did it: reviewed Mitski's new residency at NYC's The Shed @us.theguardian.com
seeing her perform for the ninth time in 9 years (!), I feel confident saying that Mitski is in her triumphant era.
"[Cha] was interested in deep, long scales of human time. "
In belated honor of Theresa Hak Kyung Cha's birthday (March 4, 1951), revisit "Dictee's Pictures," by Spencer Lee-Lenfield, in #TheMargins. πΌοΈβοΈ

I'm considering the alley a very very very off-off-offsite for all of us Bay Area folks not at AWP right now.
DAMMIT.
Plus side, finally closing some of my tabs
Cool, I guess this is one of those I don't get to sleep nights.
Moon!
Amy, I SHRIEKED
tickled to death that we're sending a printed out manuscript of @heydaybooks.com Dave Perlis's cultural history "Morning in Marin: Zen, Drugs, and Ewoks on the California Coast" to Huey Lewis for a blurb today: bookshop.org/p/books/morn...
So this is really happening. Coming soon: The Book Supplement. First issue almost done. Four books, four reviewers.
A second issue for later in March is also in the works.
always gonna support a Stein reference in Oakland, especially a queer bar space coming into being where a queer bar/restaurant was. www.gofundme.com/f/new-queer-...
There are blues three nights a week in Oakland: East Oakland on Saturday nights, Lakeside on Sundays, and Mondays at Eli's. A bassist who is also a photojournalist for the tribune told me!
I love this so very very much. And the Imani Perry quote too!!
Presidio Bay and Prado Group have emerged as the winning bidder for the shuttered shopping center with plans to turn sections into housing and office space.
