The owl is definitely a ferocious and efficient predator able to take down prey—like this American Robin—even larger than itself.

Gorgeous birds! Congratulations on the photos.
Profile of a hawk with short hooked bill perched on a tree branch. It has a medium-brown head, wings and tail feathers. Its breast plumage is mottled russet-brown and white.
This disgruntled #Sharp-shinnedHawk paid a lightning fast visit to my birder feeder the other day and barely missed nabbing any of the numerous feeding songbirds. Lucky for them; not so lucky for the #hawk! 🪶🌿

Thanks, Carl. Yes, it’s been quite mild. It seems like it went directly from fall to spring, unlike the eastern part of the country!

Personal neck warmer.
Late afternoon scenic view of a wetland surrounded by treed mountains.
Love #birding at our local #wetland surrounded by #mountain peaks. 🌿
Profile of a large bird with slate-grey plumage and light yellow beak standing on a large rock in a body of water surrounded by tan-coloured cattails.
One chill heron. From a recent wintry walk around our local wetland. #GreatBlueHeron #BirdsOfBC #HopeBC 🪶
That’s for sure. Many thanks!
Beautiful picture!
Thanks, Julie! Serendipity played a big part in that.
... and a still shot.
I came across this noisy scene while walking the dog yesterday--a #NorthernPygmy-Owl enjoying a tasty meal of robin tartare. The alarm call tick-ticking of juncos alerted me to the situation in a nearby conifer tree. A tad grisly, but it truthfully represents the cycle of life, right? 🪶 #Owl #HopeBC
I appreciate the reposts. Thank you!
Many thanks for the reposts!
Thanks! A beautiful bird makes it easy. 🤗
Very nice! 👍👍👍
Bright orange and black bird with white wing patches perched in a leafy shrub.
Still in the #Pantanal, this orange-backed troupial looks a bit like our local Bullock's oriole in BC. Same genus of birds-- #Icterus. The term "troupial" is from the French troupiale, meaning troop or flock, so named because of their penchant to gather. 🪶🌿🇧🇷 #BrazilBirds #AvesBrasil #BirdingInBrazil
Beautiful lighting!
Large heron standing in water with slate-grey plumage on its back and reddish-brown neck and head. Its beak is large and dagger-like and its face is yellow where the skin is exposed.
Large heron with coarse brown-barred plumage in this young bird. The bird is standing sideways to the photographer. Its bill and legs are dirty yellow to tan in colour.
From our #birding trip to #Brazil last August, the impressive #RufescentTigerHeron is named for its reddish-brown neck and head and coarse barred pattern particularly seen in the juvenile bird (second image). 🪶🌿🇧🇷 #brazilbirds #avesbrasil #birdinginbrazil #pantanal
Nice shot! 👏👏👏
A pair of beautiful wood ducks swimming from right to left in a pond surrounded by aquatic plants. The mostly grey-brown female is in the lead followed closely by the multicoloured male.
With love to my special valentine @connielavon.bsky.social. I hope all family and friends have a day of peace and love. 🪶💕 #woodduckpair #valentinebirds #valentinesday

I hit re-post by mistake, but maybe it was a Freudian slip.
Early stocking stuffer idea!
Excellent! I’ll be looking for it as an early stocking stuffer.

Yes, some say pineapple on a pizza is a Sin, but with a from scratch crust, homemade Andoullie Sausage, our own smoked Canadian Ham, fresh mushroom tomato sauce, and three cheeses.... it's a pretty good tasting #Sin!

Very nice capture!
Bird, perched on a branch, with white throat and chest and black wings and head glaring with its ruby-red eyes at the photographer.
Bird, perched on a plant stem facing to the left, with rufous-brown head, wings and tail. The tail's colour merges to dark grey at the end. Its throat, chest and belly are a creamy-white
This male #GreatAntshrike was keeping a close watch on me and fellow birders with those gorgeous ruby-red eyes. His black and white plumage contrast starkly with his mate's soft rufous-brown feathers, but she still has the lovely red eyes. Parque Mãe Bonifácia, Cuiabá.
