Meta Plans to Add Facial Recognition Technology to Its Smart Glasses

An article in the NYT today revealed Meta’s plan to take advantage of current political turmoil to sneak facial recognition into their smart glasses without enforcement bodies or privacy advocates noticing. But EPIC has noticed—and is ensuring that enforcers do, too. www.nytimes.com/2026/02/13/t...

I’m Alex Vindman and I’m running for the U.S. Senate. Chaos, corruption and sky-rocketing costs are crushing ordinary people, while the billionaires and career politicians profit.

I stepped up when my country needed a soldier and now I’m stepping up again to fight for Floridians.

Those of us who have experienced living in a country with censorship (in my case, the USSR) know very well that it is precisely the stuff "they" don't want you to see that is ultimately most watched. Thanks to Bari Weiss's rookie mistake, *everyone* has seen this segment by now.

Trump Has a Recipe for War and Corruption, Not Peace Who would benefit from the White House’s 28-point proposal for Ukraine?

This is not a peace plan. It is a proposal that weakens Ukraine and divides America from Europe, preparing the way for a larger war in the future. In the meantime, it benefits unnamed Russian and American investors, at the expense of everyone else.

Cryptographers Held an Election. They Can’t Decrypt the Results.

The IACR in the news. We made a mistake, and the lesson is: Even cryptographers can't successfully run a relatively small online election that respects the secrecy of the ballot. Don't try this in national elections, people! @verifiedvoting.org

First they hit us with cuts to Federal grant funding. Now they are hitting us by imposing taxes on endowments. What makes America truly great, what has, over centuries, made it a hub of thought and innovation, is what's targeted here. The Senate must stop this -- call your Senator now!

What they've done here is, of course, illegal. The AAU and many universities (including Penn, Brown, MIT) are in litigation to stop (some of) what's happening. Your NSF termination is probably grounds for additional legal action. We -- you! -- will win!

Harvard and Princeton only got into the fray once the WH said they were pulling their funding. Whereas some of us (including Brown and Hopkins) stuck our necks out back in February with the NIH overhead lawsuit, and, so far, we are winning. (It's only front-page when it's Harvard though.)

First, let me be clear here that I’m speaking on my own behalf here. We try to do right by our members, and as a volunteer-run organization, we rely on all the help we can get. Everything is pretty much a function of those two inputs plus entropy. :)

Yes, it certainly calls for having an open mind for where to hold Crypto. Eight years ago we thought this would just be a four-year blip. That appears to have been wishful thinking.

Someone else has to volunteer and fast. These things take years of hard work to put together. (And visas aside it’s a good plan!) Although I’m upset too right now, there is no other option on the table. So this is likely the best we can do.
