This is probably more of a diary entry than a blog post, but it does have a link to the museum's video which'll give you more of an idea what went on over that weekend. Looking forward to the next one in Swindon in May.

Male downy woodpecker - his red bit of feathers on his head is barely noticeable. The female does not have red feathers at all. This bird is slightly bigger than a sparrow. He has a few black and white stripes on his head. One of the black stripes covered his eyes, almost looks like he is wearing a mask. His back feathers and wings are black with whit dots. Tail feathers are black and white. The background is the clear blue day in the afternoon.

The red tailed hawk was flying away from me and was about to turn in a different direction, so his head is not very visible. However, this did give a great opportunity for a picture of his full reddish brown tail and his wings fully expanded. Had to zoom in quite a bit for this photo and still had to crop significantly. The sky is clear blue and no clouds. The hawk was flying towards a patch of trees that have their winter leafless, light brown colors.

In this photo the hawk was flying over me as well, but he is closer and flying a different direction. This is what the underneath of a red-tailed hawk looks like. It has dark brown spots along his chest line, which is different than the tear drop shaped brown spots that cover the chest of a Coopers Hawk. Sky is a perfect blue color with no clouds.
