If you look up this week, you might just see something special!
The faint interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS will get its closest to Earth on Friday 19 Dec ☄️
On November 20th, the Moon reached its farthest point from Earth in its orbit. At this distance, the Moon appears smaller and dimmer in the sky 🌔

What's your fave cloud? Mine's a lenticular 😎
Mostly cos they look like UFOs, and also cos they are formed by air flowing over an obstacles 🏔️
This causes invisible waves in the atmosphere like the ripples in a river that are formed by water flowing around a rock.

Did you know - clouds were first classified into 3 broad categories by Luke Howard... in 1802!
🌥️ Cumulus (meaning ‘heap’)
🪶 Cirrus (meaning ‘fibre’)
🌫️ Stratus (meaning ‘layer’)
We still use these categories today!
Image from the Royal Meteorological Society (@rmets.org)
Can you guess which of these cloud ‘facts’ is false?
☁️ Clouds can contain liquid water down to temperatures as cold as -38°C
☁️ An average storm cloud (cumulonimbus) weighs as much as an Airbus A380
☁️ Nobody has ever travelled through a storm cloud and lived to tell the tale!
At Nova, we love clouds 🌦️
Clouds are one of the most ubiquitous weather features on our planet, but despite that, there's a lot we don't know.
In fact, their physics is so complex that clouds remain the #1 source of uncertainty in our predictions of future climate change.

Our very own @drgilbz.bsky.social is involved in this epic series.
Come along to a NOVA show to hear her speak more about how ice age climates have shaped our beautiful planet 🌍
The picture that changed everything. In 1968, "Earthrise" allowed us to see our home planet from the outside for the first time.
To quote the photographer, astronaut Bill Anders: "We set out to explore the moon and instead discovered the Earth."

Attention dark sky watchers! 🗣️
November has some exciting events in the UK, including the Taurid meteor shower.
The Taurid has two peaks, one which occurred in early October and another on November 12. But you can still catch them this week - just make sure you have a dark sky and clear view! ☄️

Did you catch the northern lights this week? Sometimes they can be viewed as far south as the UK!
Although they can be hard to see with the naked eye, you can often catch them through your phone camera. Charlotte took the second pic in May 2024 in SE England using just her iPhone.
I've been gabbling excitedly about this for a lil' while, but... it's getting real!
🌍✨🔭 I'm developing a live science show - think SPECTACLE - with my brilliant colleague Charly.
It's gonna be great, and I'm super hyped 👀
