#OtD 27 Feb 1943 the Rosenstrasse protest, began - the only mass public demonstration by Germans against the deportation of Jews, organised by their non-Jewish wives. Lasting until March, the women were successful stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/9897...

#OtD 27 Feb 1973 armed Native American activists occupied Wounded Knee, South Dakota, in protest at corruption and US treaty breaches with Native Americans. Despite state violence and killings they held out for 71 days and galvanised huge support stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/9898...

#OtD 28 Feb 1972 the trial of legendary Black communist Angela Davis for murder, kidnapping & conspiracy began in San Jose, CA. Amidst a global campaign of support in June an all-white jury acquitted her of all charges. Davis tells her story in this book: shop.workingclasshistory.com/collections/...

#OtD 7 Feb 1952 nine anarchist anti-Franco guerrillas of the Tallion action group were sentenced to death. Five were executed the following month but four (inc Miguel Garcia, pictured) had sentences commuted to life imprisonment and were later freed stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/1069...

It's crazy that Bristol had a statute of Colston the enslaver for decades, yet barely anyone knows about this guy. This book by @brisradhis.bsky.social is good at bringing him into the light.

Today in the US is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, commemorating the legendary civil right activist and socialist who was murdered supporting a strike of sanitation workers. While lauded today, when alive he was demonised by politicians and media stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/1333...
