We have some good news for you: someone's already working on Debian and Devuan packages for SonicDE and we'll make an official announcement in a few days.
We're happy to announce yet another porting effort for #SonicDE, this time to #FreeBSD. You're welcome to contribute, test the ports, and create more at github.com/sonicde-free... .
We're happy to announce that some of our contributors started to create ebuilds for #SonicDE on #Gentoo #Linux. You're welcome to join them, test the ebuilds, and create more at github.com/sonicde-gentoo. #GentooLinux
Currently, there are no separate DEB packages for Debian, Devuan, or Ubuntu. That said, we look forward to someone taking on the task.
We've started implementing a #Vulkan backend for the sonic-win window manager. That's an alternative to #OpenGL and could bring us a step closer to #HDR rendering. Please see github.com/Sonic-DE/son... . #SonicDE
SonicDE 6.5.4 on Vendefoul Wolf Linux version Viriato, based on Devuan 7, and kernel 6.18.5+deb14-amd64

P.S. The slogan on the front of the OpenMandriva booth at FOSDEM in Brussels reads:
OPENMANDRIVA - The OS Of Choice For Those Who Prefer Good Code Over Good Marketing
The OpenMandriva booth H4 at FOSDEM in Brussels
#SonicDE is being demoed on a #Steam Deck by the @openmandriva.org.web.brid.gy devs at #FOSDEM. They launched, quote, "the most expensive marketing program in history" :-D;-) and we're happy to be part of it. Visit them at booth H4, or get the SonicDE packages for #OpenMandriva in the next few days.
We've created the "Sonic Silver" #SDDM theme based on the AndromiX-SDDM-Theme project by Ziednaga with some fixes. It comes in both light and dark. You can get it at github.com/Sonic-DE/sil.... #SonicDE
Unfortunately, we have to say something about the planned announcement. Back in November 2025, we were told by a @kde.org representative:
"We [KDE] will gladly give the project a shout out on social media for those who find the shift to Wayland a problem. This works for us."

We set up everything and waited 6 weeks for #KDE's announcement. Nothing. We repeatedly tried to contact the representative and his colleagues, but they didn't respond. That's a pity. We had high hopes and had already agreed on a good collaboration.
2/3
We now have to announce that there'll be no joint announcement with #KDE. We can't comment on a future collaboration at this time. We only know that we need partners who are trustworthy and who keep their word. Please see github.com/Sonic-DE/son... for more. #SonicDE

In the last few days, we've created channels on Discord, Matrix, OFTC, and Telegram, welcoming you there. We've improved our #SonicDE GitHub workflow, polished our READMEs, and upstreamed the first small contribution to #KDE Plasma Workspace.
We're ready. For an announcement.
The #OpenMandriva maintainers will package #SonicDE "unless and until Wayland makes so much progress that #X11 becomes as obsolete as #Wayland advocates today say it is". They also consider talking about SonicDE as on-topic in their channels and forum. github.com/orgs/Sonic-D...
Thank you! Yes, we are already in contact.

Hello, we are #SonicDE, the community-driven Sonic Desktop Environment. Aiming to preserve and improve the #X11-specific aspects of #KDE. There are already `*-sonic` packages in the Arch Linux AUR, on Artix Linux as well as talks with maintainers of other distributions.
We welcome you to follow us here and join as at github.com/Sonic-DE as well at #sonicde on irc.libera.chat and at t.me/sonic_de.
