We just launched the Open Source Endowment, the first endowment dedicated to supporting Open Source maintainers, with $693,000 raised already.
The world depends on Open Source, but making our ecosystem sustainable is a complex task. I hope that, with community consultation, the Endowment can help π

if you're gonna take up writing as a hobby to the point of starting a blog, put your heart into it.
free open source software needs fewer engineers and more designers and product people
If you care about pixel art as a medium and want to learn more about how to detect if it is genuine or AI-generated, please refer to this writeup that I created with the help of the community. Read, download, share and support real creators.
If you heard: "Don't bother learning to code, AI will do it all."
They're wrong. Here's why.

oh well, I need to be active here as well
Iβve been thinking about open source work that sits between βside projectβ and βventure-backed startup.β Watching the atproto space has sharpened my thinking around shared, communal infrastructure.
These are some thoughts on why that middle path eroded and what it might take to rebuild it.
danielroe β Yesterday at 20:41 hello everyone! π ... and apologies for the ping, but now seems a good time to talk about what npmx is as an open source project. it was 8 days ago that I made the first commit, and I had something I was excited about a day later. it was clear to me from [the](https://bsky.app/profile/danielroe.dev/post/3md3cmrg56k2r) [community](https://bsky.app/profile/danielroe.dev/post/3md47mg7qjs22) that it would be big, and I invited patak to join two days later. it's impossible to believe that it's been less than a week since we started inviting close allies and trusted folk. we're already at 75+ npmx contributors, and around 200 people on the server now, which is an outstanding percentage. so now seems like a good time to make explicit what 'npmx' is: we're open-source and for the good of the web we're a community project, built by all of us it might be a bit early for it, but patak and I have drafted a governance doc to set out a bit about how we want to steward npmx. it's short but we'll be filling it out more as we go on. we've also created an opencollective so we can help support the community and hopefully, one day, help other similar projects. we want to make the experience of using npmjs better for us and for others. and the joy of open source is that we can do that together! I hope it goes without saying, but thank you β€οΈ we'd love your thoughts on the document and on the project π
what I love most about open source is the community π
... and I think that's what makes nuxt and vite so special to everyone involved β€οΈ
I'm glad @patak.dev is willing to join me as a steward of npmx π
Everyone on my feed is attending @fosdem.org. Gonna have so much FOMO :/

Really wishing that somebody would hire my company (@igalia.com) to standardize/implement support for import maps in web workers.
I already have a draft spec PR ready and there is interest from the community, which company wants to be the hero funding pushing it forward? :)

curl will be stopping its bounty program at the end of this month
I personally expected this to happen due to many low-effort AI slop bug reports, which caused maintainers waste time and energy reproducing non-existent bugs.
Curious to see how AI can affect other things in OSS
I hope you will do well diva πͺ
Hi everyone, I am planning to release v3 of Box CLI Maker soon, and I would love everyone's feedback on the new release

I seem to be getting an influx of followers. You might also be interested in my other work, like @weaver.sh.
I am also looking for work, as well as support for my open-source projects, including Weaver, the Jacquard atproto rust library, and @pattern.atproto.systems

I want this next generation of software development tools to run on my own computer. Vim and Emacs helped democratize software development and made it accessible. We shouldn't allow this AI wave to take us backwards.
I really hope the open source community can keep pace.
One of my favorite parts of FOSDEM is catching up with maintainers π
