#SteamNextFest is very close. I'm very nervous to see how FoxHaunt will be received.
Then the full release of the game will be very soon after, on March 5th.

It feels very satisfying starting a new clean codebase, after learning from my past mistakes. Let's see how long I can go before I turn this new codebase into spaghetti. ๐Ÿ

Some FoxHaunt trivia:
Originally I inteded for the player to control 2 characters. 1 character was a spirit, and the other was the body possessed by the spirit.
I ended up simplifying it to just be 1 character, but I kept the separate stats for the body and spirit.

One of my other goals with FoxHaunt was to create the experience of a time loop. I wanted knowledge to be the main factor limiting your progress, not unlocking things. Every loop you learn a little more to help you reach the goal.

It's amazing I happened to pick a piece of text to display which has a mistake. At least it helped me notice so that I can fix it.

One of my goals with FoxHaunt was to create a game about discovery.
Initially you know nothing, but with each retry you learn from your mistakes. To help you the game remembers the outcomes of choices you previously made.

With the release of FoxHaunt getting close I'm getting nervous about how the game will be recieved. It's a pretty unusual game, so it might not be for everyone. But even if the gameplay doesn't click I hope that everyone can at least enjoy the cute characters.

Recently I decided on what game I'll make after FoxHaunt. It's going to be a bigger game, but hopefully all the lessons I learnt while making FoxHaunt will help.

Keeping a consistent theme, my second game will be related to fox spirits too.

I made another small update to the #Steam demo of Foxhaunt:
- The battle stat panel now shows the base stats and bonus stats separately.
- Fixed a bug which caused unexpected behavior with form and aura at the start of battles.

I just pushed a couple of tiny updates for the FoxHaunt demo on #Steam.
- Updated to use #Godot 4.6
- Added level numbers next to character names in battle as an extra hint to help the player.

Prior to that idea I was pretty close to using a library as the hub area, with each spirit's domain being in a book matching the theme of their area.

There are honeslty a lot of subtle things like this in the game, and sadly many I wanted to include but had to cut.

Random piece of FoxHaunt trivia which I suspect most people won't figure out.

The reason I originally chose "The Observatory" as the hub area of the game was because I thought it played nicely with the imagery of a 9 tailed fox. With the sun surrounded by 9 planets.

After experimenting and talking to some people who playtested the game I'm probably going to leave it as-is for now. But I'll probably pay attention to how other people react when they play the game too.

I've been experimenting with the idea of making enemy power scale based on your progress.
It adds some fun being able to choose your own path through the game, but it also makes the game a little easy, and therefore short.
I'm a little torn whether to use it or not.

With FoxHaunt's release getting close I've been thinking about what I'll work on next.
I have a lot of ideas, but I have to be careful to pick one which I have the resouces to accomplish. I also want to pick an idea that feels meaningful to make.

Someone told me today that the Swashbuckling Fox was their favourite.
One thing interesting about this character is that her outfit is based on the design of a character for one of my other game ideas.
Unfortunatley that other game is too big for me to make alone any time soon.

Another goal was to make it possible to power up really quickly with the right knowledge.

If you know what to do you can speedrun the game in about 15 minutes, but new players will need to play many loops to gain that knowledge first.

One of my goals when making FoxHaunt was to have a game where you could fight the final boss from the beginning of the game, but you need to power up before you can actually win.

I can hardly believe it myself, but FoxHaunt is basically fully made!
Between now and the release on March 5th I will focus on improvements.

I'm also starting to think about what game I'll make next.
