On the freezing dock note. I’m not sure what the issue is, but they lock out a lot of the (new, black) docks even at stations that are open, so there must be something that is per dock not just per station. I’m guessing batteries 🤷♂️
I don’t know how much of a difference it actually makes, especially the last one, but since (IIUC) bublr is a struggling nonprofit I tend to give them the benefit of the doubt on that. Honestly really appreciate that they stay open all winter at all
Someone has to shovel, I think the stations can struggle in the winter (freezing up, power, whatever) which leads to more wear and callouts, even if everything is working someone has to visit it to balance bikes and pull broken ones, probably other things too
2008 vibes - our last big gas price spike. PBLs had just emerged in US cities. Biking was a way to reduce dependence and save money.
We’ve since gone through safety, equity, and health waves. Back now to gas prices & oil dependency.
When do we just get to say, “Biking is a multisolving good, LFG!”
I’ve worried about how this country would handle a modern oil crisis for a while, I never really considered that we would intentionally start one
I feel like this is much bigger than just running for office. Professionally men seem much more willing to say “I’ve never tried this, let’s see if I can do it” while women want to prepare and know they’re ready (obviously broad stereotypes, not everyone’s the same, etc)
Did that dude need a script to say his own name?
A. Though more often than not my wife folds the kid's clothes
I just wish they were less bright and distracting. The “bottle cap” (scratcher) machines up here are lit and visible, but the video gaming machines are very visually disruptive
That… I don’t know. I guess I get it, but also “you can only gamble if you’re also drinking” is a hell of a choice
It is probably the same up here, and it would happen anyway, but putting it like that feels real gross
It saves mowing cost
Evening, folks. I'm going to post my Marquette University Law School Poll release thread over here on Bluesky. Sound good? Let's hit it.
I was there live at the poll release and this is my THREAD.
I was stuck in the only full row on a nearly empty Southwest flight yesterday. Instead of the usual “empty flight, spread out” they went around making sure no one left their assigned seat
Ability to work from home + being self-employed means that I really struggle to truly step away
I’m honestly not sure if I’ll ever figure it out
Wife: sleeping on a hotel bed
Me: reading next to her
She wakes up in a panic “someone’s in our room”
Me: what!? Oh I guess housekeeping is here
I’m an excellent security guard, is what I’m saying
The Child desperately wants to go to another Admirals game, but almost all the non-concert ($$) games don’t start until 7
My kingdom for a 6:00 Thursday game
I watched one minute of hockey this Olympics. Chose well
I don’t know how SAE would feel about it (or if they have power to stop it) but I think there’s a good and growing market for high power garage appliances that run off a NACS port. Heaters, welders, mowers, etc.
Though for mowers I think most just use a normal household (NEMA 5-15) plug
How much does IL actually pay the federal government? I assume it's not that high for most states. You could arguably tell the munis to stop withholdings too, but it's still a lot less than they'd lose in transfer payments if it came to that
Is pretty funny to mess that up on a thread about innumeracy though 😂
Is this like when the 2019 ATS update at O'Hare was delayed by COVID
Before Finding Nemo came out the Disney Channel ran several months of fish trivia questions in the "ad" bumpers to get kids excited about fish. It's diabolical
>It also reflects a larger problem: the assumption that a president can singlehandedly fix or wreck the economy.
Seems like we're testing that assumption right now...
I’m choosing to live in denial this month. It’s probably only like $40 or something
There's context and familiarity (much like working with people), but at the end of the day it's a box I tell to make something, and the next time I need to make something I'm going to use the best/cheapest box I can find
💯 There's some real value in certain use cases - like software development where I find it helpful - but it's entirely siloed and I don't see how you build lock in, much less network effects
Yeah, I think it has to be professional use cases. I could definitely see a future where I pay a few hundred bucks a month for AI for work
But then it’s a much smaller market, so I still don’t think that justifies the scale and valuations today at all
**Important update**
