A Roman mosaic depicting an owl with wide eyes, brown and red body, and blue feet, set against a cream-colored background with a black geometric border. The owl looks a bit deranged.

Satomi, in Kyouji's eyes:
trying to find the polymorph tomes
That's what she does best, dropping breadcrumbs here and there as much as the visual medium of manga allows it. It also gives me the idea Satomi is into some of the more "serious" literature and might use examples like Dante/Beatrice and Abelard/Heloise to justify his own age-gap romance.
The Krabat story fits Kyouji and Satomi so well it is kind of heartbreaking
Yes he does! I don't remember which chapter but it is on the bookshelf next to some law textbooks and the Kyouji savings jar.
Oh yes! Also for some reasons I feel like their interests might overlap in spy novels/ espionage thrillers, such as John le Carrรฉ.
Satomi: My boyfriend didn't attend college but he likes to read. His favorite is crime/mystery novels and I'm like okay-ish with those but I read them because he forces me to. We did watch Casablanca together though...

Status update: back to my Fujoshi era, which means spontaneously scrolling through Simplified/Traditional Chinese/English fanfics on AO3 and browsing Japanese/Korean fanarts on Pixiv/Bluesky. Great incentive for catching up on my JPN/KRN learning.

Himiko (1974) is an excellent movie, btw. Been on my Douban list for a while.

King Zhou of Shang and Consort Daji in The Investiture of the Gods (1990)
For some reason they believed Greco-Roman style tunics and headbands were a good fit for Shang.
At least we get the curious Greco-Roman rendition of King Zhou and Daji in the 1990 TV series of the Investiture of the Gods... (I heard some of the hairstyles are actually fairly historically/ archaeologically accurate)
just a reminder that the amazing @kafu-iko.bsky.social has a bunch of translated wayama interviews and Q&As up on his karafami fansite and they are SO worth reading. there's so many fascinating tidbits tucked away in them kafu-iko.neocities.org/resources/
We must maintain the right to vigorously criticize nations. All nations, for that matter. What we cannot do is countenance imperial wars of aggression framed in the idiom of โhumanitarianismโ or โsecurity.โ Whose humanity, whose security? Certainly not the people of Palestine, Lebanon, or Iran.
