Wondering if AI is developing its own Apple/Microsoft dynamic. One dominant, ubiquitous, “good enough.” One smaller, more deliberate, values-led.

Interesting that a whole industry is treating "code earlier in the design process" like an epiphany. That was always the way when working with technology. Everyone was too busy theorizing and drawing red lines to actually do it. The real blocker was probably cost, not capability.
Haha, same!
Wooden table, two chairs, and white over-ear headphones in a studio space.
New addition to the MAD studio space.
A close-up 3D render of rough green rock formations with crystalline subsurface textures and a hollow geode-like center.
One of the final renders from a brand we built around subsurface material textures. Really happy with how this one turned out.
A lot of my work happens in the quiet parts of the day. When everything slows down a bit, the ideas usually show up.

What did it say? Let‘s bring iframes back?
Exploring motion language for a hotel data platform.
Tempting
Don‘t 😅
What I found interesting though was how my family across different age groups and not tech-savvy perceived the update. They felt it gave their old phones a breath of fresh air, like they’d just gotten something new. It’s fascinating how a design change can spark that kind of emotional response.
Of course, there are plenty of ways to look at it. I believe Interfaces will increasingly blend with their surroundings. Apple might have underestimated how much effort it takes to make that shift while still meeting everyone’s needs by default.
Admittedly, those big floaty buttons in the browser are unnecessary. This is where you drop the defaults and do what is right (detach component). 😅
You could call it an admission of failure. On a more meta level there is a growing tendency toward software that is more customizable and more ambient. iOS aside, I find it exciting to design systems that can survive customization. MySpace era vibes :)
Same
The hardest part of design is not making it look good. It is getting five people with different agendas to believe it looks good.
super fun, it's also nice to experience a different creative process
sound design was done by Plan8.
Really love how our brand reveal video for Ona turned out. Good reminder that investing in sound design is worth the effort. It carries half the story.
very welcome
I wish more companies invested in this level of craft in design and development, and had the conviction to shape their own perspective instead of just taking what’s out there.
Maybe relaunch as Aperture 4. 👀
AI tools are starting to look the same. I have no doubt that Design and craft will be the real differentiator.
That’s the cost of unhinged acceleration. I’m sure there are people inside who care, but scale and speed has a way of muting moral.
AI is sprinting, but the interfaces are barely moving.
Sad to see Visual Electric shutting down because of the acquisition. Some people think www.recraft.ai might be an alternative. However, I never tried it and it doesn't look as good as Visual Electric.

Wild how fast things move. The Humane AI Pin already feels like a museum piece. It's sometimes less about the tech and more about whether people actually want to live with it.
I wonder why people are so obsessed with chasing process formulas. What worked for someone else won’t work the same for you. Find your voice, show up, be kind. Everything else will follow.
Seeing Johannes standing in front of it makes it all feel that much more real.
