Pacific Golden Plover, a medium sized bird with mottled black and white plumage, long legs, short tail, a straight sharp conical beak, and prominent white eyebrow above a black eye. It is standing in lawngrass, one foot raised as it looks at the camera to assess risk and determine its next step.

I met this Pacific Golden Plover just two days ago outside Kona airport in Hawaii, where it was #SteppingOut on the lawn out front, unconcerned by the cars and luggage rumbling by, but wary of me and my iPhone camera trying to take a picture. #BirdOfTheDay
