Every couple of months or so, someone puts out a piece of bad social science meant to undermine the case for more housing. For Roosevelt Institute, I wrote a blog post responding to the two most recent specimens. rooseveltinstitute.org/blog/there-i...
Great list! One more thing Iβd add here is Heat Wave by Eric Klinenberg, which examines the response to the 1995 heatwave as a way of talking about a bunch of intersecting problems of urban life. I think it also contextualize a how the city response to natural disasters now.
NEW: Over the past year, we've been collecting thousands of financial disclosure documents from across the Trump administration. Now we're making them searchable. Look up names, assets, former employers across 1,500+ Trump appointees and 3,000+ ethics documents.
On seeking data about immigration enforcement in the US: "Every records request should start with reporting", Will Craft from the Guardian tells #NICAR26. Know what you should ask for, he advised. "You have to be very very very precise." In other words: Do a lot of work prior to filing a FOIA.
some lighthearted election news from MI: the "I Voted" sticker contest is back! Will anything top the werewolf of '24, though? www.clickondetroit.com/news/local/2...

RETVRN guy but for all the websites looking like this
In her review of Piketty, McCloskey points out that the Latin root of data is "things given," but that the documentation Piketty is working with, primarily tax records, is more accurately a reflection of "things seized." That is, not data, but capta. I want to dΓ©tournΓ© McCloskey's point to argue that capta is the appropriate title for the currencies of technofeudalism.? It is an economy which is growing increasingly inefficient, coercive, and authoritarian because the economic process it glorifies is not one of mutual consent to market exchange, but of non-consensual seizure of attention, identity, and future potential.
Iβve been trying to use capta consistently, where appropriate, and have been pleased to find, for many, no explanation is needed. It is very intuitive, as disciplinary jargon should be.
Hi all, a bunch of creepy Republican donors who have been appointed to make decisions at the public entity Cumberland Area Economic Development Corporation (CAEDC) are rushing through a plan to demolish historic brick buildings at the site of the old Frog Switch Manufacturing in Carlisle.
great thread π₯³

this is going to be the biggest but most ignored story of the year. the implications of this and the responsibilities it calls up in transfeminists, the responsibility to organize directly to put a stop to this by force, can't go ignored any longer
Itβs here! The annual CfA for the annual conference by the Danish society for Marxist Studies. Go go go go!
And now thanks to @mickael.canouil.fr text-prefix and text-suffix now work in both HTML *and* Typst! github.com/andrewheiss/...
Excited to release this policy brief exploring the college enrollment impacts of Massachusetts' recent dramatic expansions of free community college.
TLDR: The clear messaging and simple design of MassReconnect & MassEducate sparked substantial increases in community college enrollment.
Californiaβs housing market is officially a landed gentry system. π
New data from the Wall Street Journal: 1 in 5 of CA home transfers are now inheritancesβdouble the US average.
Does CA need to end Prop 13 to save the American Dream? π§΅π
This guy in Grand Rapids, Michigan created a community center that's just a hangout zone with gathering spaces and an informal library and crafting tables and a little gym areaβa true "third place"
Imagining a world with more of these and I genuinely think it'd have a million downstream benefits
