However, I have seen no evidence to suggest that by design or by accident, a person who uses an LLM for feedback on a piece of writing is in danger of seeing their writing pop up somewhere else, without attribution, in any kind of wholesale or significant way.
Im sure that folks are worried, and that journals have made policies driven by these concerns. However, it seems like you’re saying that we should be concerned because people are concerned. LLMs can certainly be used for evil. We should be cautious and educated.
Tell me more, if you will. How is it conditioned to act?
I will respond in more detail this afternoon. Just didn’t want you to think I was ignoring this if I didn’t get back right away.
:-) I’d love to provide you with a custom lit review on this topic, but something tells me I’d be wasting my time since you are so committed to your position. For anyone who is truly interested in how LLMs use data, this information is readily available. A simple search will do.
Just to clarify - you believe that using your content to train would result in the direct re-use of your content elsewhere?
Yes. I assume you believe that it is not? I’m curious to hear your thoughts.
Scholarly kitchen? No. But LLMs don’t just recycle people’s work the way it seemed you were indicating in your post. Perhaps I misunderstood?
I teach Computer Science. Can they be coding assignments instead? Give me the work.
That's not how it works.
It's a yes for me. It's a great way to improve your writing. For those who are opposed: Do you also turn off spell check and grammar check? Wondering how you feel about having a person proofread and offer critique? AI is a tool. Tools are neutral and can be used for good or evil.

Very happy with how the first print edition turned out. Free edition is still free as well - textbook equity matters. #AcademicSky #Equity
Delicious cookie-croissants and other desserts from Pitchoun Bakery.
Previously, I scoffed at the idea of combining a croissant with a cookie. After my daughter brought us some from Pitchoun Bakery in LA, I want to go an record and say that I was completely mistaken. I am 100% pro-cookie+croissant.
People Magazine with that tough reporting we’ve been looking for: apple.news/Aegmy6fQnSfO...
Reach out to @tracyfullerton.bsky.social - it doesn’t look like she’s active on blue sky yet but she does have an account. She runs the game lab at USC. I would be willing to bet that she knows somebody.
I’ve kept a server active for years, so our kids who were away at college could play with the ones at home. Sometimes friends join and I jump in there too. Great connecting activity.
Authenticity beats policing 10/10 times.
Wild to see SL still hanging around. We had some great learning adventures in that world in 2007. I wonder if folks have figured out how to use it in more powerful ways yet, or if folks are still doing “Avatar Lectures”…
I like your headline better.
Only if one of your questions is “would you be willing to participate in a follow up interview?
I’m shocked to hear it.

I have been an enthusiastic supporter of adjunct faculty for a long time. They are essential to the existence of higher education. They keep us grounded and connected to the "real" world, and allow us to offer far more sectios than could be budgeted using only FT fac. They need better support.
They must peer review using Turnitin.
I agree on the importance of this article. Wow.
Same. I also love Bird by Bird.
Love to see it.
One of my kids is reading that but it’s because I bought it for her Christmas present. :)
