Don't believe the hype. Trump hasn't ordered the Smithsonian to do anything. "The President exercises no control over the Smithsonian." 32 Op. OLC at 62. He's merely directed VP Vance, as *one of 17* board members, to "seek[] to remove improper ideology."

Note to editors and producers: If an executive order demands action that is illegal or outside of the presidentโs authority, then you should not describe it as ordering something. You should say it seeks to achieve some outcome and then note it is illegal or beyond the power of the president.
Letโs be clear:
If the government can arrest, detain, and disappear peaceful protestors, none of us are free.
Thatโs not law and order. Itโs fascism. And we should all be outraged that this is being done in our name.
Is it recency bias or is Musk literally paying MAGA nuts to drive all these Teslas around DC???
So Meta is gonna make more money off my book than I ever did. Got itโฆ
Seems to me that one answer to "we have run out of data to steal" could be to pay people to make stuff and use it with their consent
Touching to have Spotify celebrate the 1-year anniversary of my layoff by demonstrating that they could not, in fact, still do Wrapped just as well without me.
If anyone asks me what Iโm thankful for this year theyโre getting socked in the gut.
Sure does look like it

the lib narrative that many republicans are worried about trumpโs cabinet choices is so funny to me. they do not care as long as they can do tax cuts, deregulation, and other ghoulish right-wing stuff.
how many more studies and how much more evidence do we need in order to realise that AI systems are inherently biased and discriminatory in many subtle ways before we can get the use of AI for hiring banned

If you're wondering how Trump won, this is the only article you need to read. "Today, the right-wing media sets the news agenda in this country." newrepublic.com/post/188197/...
This image presents election data with the following details: Turnout: 61.05% (a decrease of 2.38 percentage points). Nominee: Claudia Sheinbaum (MORENA) and Xรณchitl Gรกlvez (PAN). Alliance: Claudia Sheinbaum represents "Sigamos Haciendo Historia," and Xรณchitl Gรกlvez represents "Fuerza y Corazรณn por Mรฉxico." Popular vote: Claudia Sheinbaum received 35,924,519 votes, and Xรณchitl Gรกlvez received 16,502,697 votes. Percentage: Claudia Sheinbaum secured 61.18%, and Xรณchitl Gรกlvez secured 28.11%.
I keep hearing that every incumbent party has lost power in recent elections worldwide but that's not true at all. Claudia Sheinbaum of Morena won the presidency in Mexico with even bigger margins (30+ points) than AMLO. She did it with leftist populism so I guess that doesn't count.
Calling fascists stupid is part of what gives them their strength, because we underestimate them & take them less seriously.
This was true with many authoritarians who were seen as clowns. But itโs true on a broader level too: the far right has learned to perfect appearing less savvy than they are.
France knows how to deal with fascists:
โThe Paris prosecutor on has requested a five-year prison sentence and a five-year ban from public office for far-right leader Marine Le Pen.โ
An extraordinary moment. Guardian to stop publishing on Twitter www.theguardian.com/media/2024/n...
Trump is a billionaire. Elon, the guy funding him and running his propaganda network is a billionaire man child.
Dems, I'm begging you, start demonizing billionaires like they do immigrants and trans people. We need a leftist populism that makes people hate the very concept of billionaires.

Of course, voter fraud is only one narrative that may come to the fore in the weeks ahead. There are likely still some surprises in store โ the results of a foreign influence campaign, or generative artificial intelligence, or some combination of the two. But whatever dirty tricks are coming, expect X to be at the center of them. Its historical role as the best place to turn to for breaking news means that millions of Americans will be returning there for real-time updates. And its post-2022 incarnation as a right-wing political project means that many of them might not apply the skepticism that is warranted to whatever Musk decides to show them.
We don't know who's going to win tomorrow. But we do know that Elon Musk will promote false claims of voter fraud to tens of millions of people โ and that X will be a central clearinghouse for conspiracy theories in the days ahead www.platformer.news/x-election-e...

this will be what AI is mostly used for, not new insights or even replacing jobs but just doing evil shit that helps bottom lines and people can pretend it wasnt their decision www.statnews.com/2023/03/13/m...
