And as long as I'm on this rant: I knew about the Taliban, and what it was doing, well before 9/11. Women were talking about it before 9/11. Then after, suddenly conservatives acted like they JUST FOUND OUT what the regime did to people and used it as part of the pretext to invade. They never cared.

Like, the same people demanding MODESTY!! from women will clutch their pearls at a burqa. The real issue is that it's Muslim-coded modesty. They'll pretend they have a holy right to see a woman's hair, or something, but they don't actually care about women's autonomy. QED, Schlapp.

I read a few weeks ago that the Taliban had cut off (women's) access to birth control. It occurred to me--not for the first time--that the goals of the Taliban and the goals of xian nationalists are extremely similar. The idea that there's a huge difference in the plan is one of their biggest lies.
