For those not that much acquainted with the Scriptures, let’s quote the full line: “Who is this coming up from the wilderness, wreathed in myrrh and frankincense, from all the powders of the merchant?” (Song 3:6)

I believe that in ancient times the body tissue removed in circumcision was collected and mashed into wine, dried into bread, or generally used in alchemy. The Song of Songs hints at it as a “powder of the merchant.” This, I think, is why Christians later believed God was in the bread.

Interpreting Joseph’s ketonet pasim—the hemmed robe—in Genesis 37:3 requires isolating its scriptural layer 37:1–3, which is descriptive and non-dramatic. Here the garment can be read as male IGM!
