Someone submitted a 14-page white paper on Columbia Pike transit service as part of their comments on the strategic plan during the comment period and staff put the whole thing into the board book/public record. Honestly inspirational.

Arlington County should definitely 💯 take full control of Glebe and Langston from VDOT. Without control we will never be able to fix those corridors to improve #VisionZero pedestrian safety or expand transit access. We are at the whim of people who think in terms of highways and faster VMT.

Columbia Pike Bike Boulevards: Demand a SAFE, CONNECTED plan with a LONG-TERM VISION! For a variety of reasons, good and bad, Columbia Pike is being completely rebuilt without any dedicated bike facilities.  Instead, parallel routes are supposed to exist for bikes just north and just south of the Pike, the Columbia Pike Bike Boulevards.  These routes have never been safe, comfortable, and connected, but the County was supposed to be unveiling a plan to change all of that. Sadly, the proposed concept plans unveiled at the September Open House are woefully insufficient.

I agree-- the county has focused on missing middle to the exclusion of planning for new housing (apartments and condos) in obvious places like at East Falls Church. One big building can contain more homes than all of missing middle.

The most affordable new homes in Arlington are usually condos and I spend a lot of time advocating for the legalization of new condos

No, the county does this on purpose. They want everything zoned super low so that developers have to negotiate with the county for "community benefits" and other gimmes that the county can extract.

Of course the real community benefit is the new housing and they should zone proactively.
