Like, the song isn't good, no one's arguing that. But taking a line about a child's internalized homophobia, clip it out of context, and make a joke as if it's the genuine perspective of an adult is failing at basic media literacy.

OP here neglects that the absurdity of homophobia is the point of the line.
He was pointing out that any behavior outside the narrow boundaries of acceptable masculinity (including things like art, cleanliness, etc.) got coded as "gay", was often punished, and that he had internalized this as a kid.

This approach, of course, is quite familiar to communities that have been dealing with police abuses for as long as there have been professional police forces. In 2000, thenβNew York City Mayor and future Trump adviser Rudy Giuliani justified the killing of the Haitian American Patrick Dorismond by police by quipping that he was βno altar boy.β Embarrassingly for Giuliani, whose capacity for shame was overestimated even then, it turned out that Dorismond had literally been an altar boy. Dorismondβs mother responded to the campaign to justify her sonβs killing with an observation that continues to haunt me decades later. βThey kill,β Dorismond said, βand after that, they kill him the other wayβwith the mouth.β Taking Goodβs life wasnβt enough. The moment she died, it became imperative for the administration to also destroy her memory.

i think to understand the meaning of the birthright citizenship clause to the framers of the 14th amendment, you have to understand significance of dred scott to the civil war republican party. dred scott wasn't just a bad ruling, it was understood as a rejection of the declaration itself.

i'm a very biased party here but pretty much everything about the Mamdani campaign and the discourse around it thus far is a pretty thorough vindication of Africana Studies
Political parties must shift immediately and dramatically to the left to avoid alienating these frustrated and abandoned young women. Am I doing this right?
If you were βprematurely anti fascistβ about this you were a hysterical lib, if you were wrong about it youβre a respectable intellectual with lots of billionaire connections bsky.app/profile/gtco...
Quick, someone poll the 4 things in this scary, scary agenda.
someone on here the other day said it feels like weβre watching a baseball game where one team decides every inning to not take their turn at bat
I'll start brainstorming titles! Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Dawn of the Dead, maybe Slither?
I'm a huge fan/longtime volunteer at the Trylon and made the same joke! I'll put in a word with our programmer to do an Invisible Bridge series next year
really love it when my favorite podcasts do unexpected crossover episodes!
There are no photos of the event in progress, but a cursory search shows there are lots of detailed, haunting photos of the aftermath. Or if you wanted to use an illustration the local Museum has a beautiful mural of the events painted by an actual artist named Cliff Letty.
I'm sorry, why post AI if you have to admit in the alt-text that it's not historically accurate?
Why tell your followers an interesting piece of history (I assume that's the point of the post) and purposefully add some AI slop that will inevitably mislead them?
having goals gives you clarity. right now the dems' goal is "win more seats in the midterms" and that gives them clarity of purpose; unfortunately, it is actually extremely damaging to spend 2 years of spreading authoritarianism stepping out of the way because you think it'll help you next election
Memorial Blood Center in St Paul took me as a walk-in. New donor forms were simple and fast. I was done in 45 minutes
