A challenge to a monstrously regressive Florida state law that makes it easier for books to be pulled from school libraries is making its way through a federal circuit court in Atlanta.

Putting this link here so I can come back and read it when my headache is gone. It's a really interesting perspective.

This is true -- if I get the postcards I'll probably end up framing each individual one and hanging them on the wall. (Maybe right in front of the door so everyone who visits will be sure to see them. π€)
Oh, I was about to share this video! π It's a good one.
Philly, we have a good problem on our hands.
We had TOO easy of a time distributing 10,000 packets of seeds. 12 bars & 13 distribution stations later, Poof!
Wanna help me pack up more? Let's meet on Monday.
I'll have free pint glasses in exchange for your help π

Ah yes, once again we are in the most evil of timelines. π
"In a series of audacious papers, Nielsen and Ninomiya have suggested that setbacks to the LHC occur because of βreverse chronological causation,β which is to say, sabotage from the future. The papers suggest that the Higgs boson may be βabhorrent to natureβ and the LHCβs creation of the Higgs sometime in the future sends ripples backward through time to scupper its own creation. Each time scientists are on the verge of capturing the Higgs, the theory holds, the future intercedes. The theory as to why the universe rejects the creation of Higgs bosons is based on complex mathematics, but, Nielsen tells TIME, βyou could explain it [simply] by saying that God, in inverted commas, or nature, hates the Higgs and tries to avoid them.β"
This one is super interesting (time.com/archive/6933...)

But what if multiple animals were sent on (failed) missions to save the world and prevent the timeline we are now experiencing?
All your prayers have been answered: my box of 100 all-new postcards hits stores in October. Some pre-order options are at eatf.art, but support your local bookstore whenever possible. This includes pre-orders! Call 'em up!
I also have two website-blogs that are free of advertisements, though I think the search engine gods punish me for this.
Always Tad Cooper. π
I've always wanted to do an anthology called BIG DAMN EXPLOSIONS where the only requirement for the stories is that they must have a big damn explosion in them. I think we could get an interesting range of stories with that.
Now I'm picturing Scalzi calmly typing answers on his phone while being launched by a trebuchet.
I'd love to have this on a card that I can hand out to people.
This is definitely the mood right now.
I understand the instinct to donate to orgs that are helping trans folks flee red states but let's not forget about the orgs that are still fighting for trans folks in red states.
ITβS TORTINβ TIME!!!! gamers we are the backest weβve ever been π’π’π’π’ so so keen to get cracking #gifted
Came across the phrase "cognitive DDOS" to describe our present culture.
Understood instantly what it meant.
Anyway, I try to help her train her algorithm by sending her Facebook posts from legit accounts like Smithsonian, NBC, etc. It's not helping. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I do an actual intervention?
My mother has a master's degree. She is a university educator. If a highly educated person like her can't be bothered to read verifiable articles, what does that mean for the rest of society?
These "articles" (this is the word she uses, even though they're just posts) are probably written by AI and cannot be verified. They have no links, attributions, or listed authors. When I tell her she can train her algorithm to show her real sources, she says, "that sounds like a lot of effort."
My highly educated mother is acting like an actual drug addict when it comes to her Facebook account, and reading misinformation. I tell her constantly to stop reading "articles" that don't come from real sources -- things that are posted by random faceless accounts with generic names.

"In fact, at 0.39% of the expense budget, he has actually allocated LESS than Eric Adams did in his FY 26 preliminary budget proposal. This is completely unacceptable and detrimental to our public libraries. Itβs deeply disappointing that Mayor Mamdani did not follow through on his commitment."
Noo so disappointing. I don't live in New York anymore but I was about as invested as the rest of us on Bluesky. It feels like the other shoe is dropping.
I'm Goodreads friends with someone named Amber... and I can't remember who she is. She doesn't have a bio or photo of herself. I think she may be someone in one of my book clubs? I keep seeing her updates and I can't remember when or how we became friends. π If you are Amber, can you let me know? π
Part of me is obsessed with this 60-year-old garbage from an archaeological standpoint, and part of me is interested in the fact that this plastic hasn't broken down in 60 years so COME ON we need to stop using so much plastic. π
