Oh goody. This page suggests arsenate of lead for chafer beetles. That will be good for everyone involved.
It is very of its era. Do this. Donβt do that. Ordering everyone around. And telling them to put toxic chemicals on their plants. Mind blowing.
Oh wait, Iβve no got to the chapter on pests and diseases. How did every gardener not poison themselves? Mercury? Ye gods. #shocked
Just reading through my 1957 edition of the ABC of Gardening and discovered Iβve been doing pruning all wrong. I should have been covering large wounds with βthick white lead paintβ. Well thatβs me educated. Iβm sure B&Q will stock it. π«€ #gardening #outdatedideas
Submerged lock gates at Kegworth, Leicestershire this afternoon. It was rather damp down there. Cars were just getting through the flood waters on the surrounding roads but I didnβt chance it.
I should add it is worthless due to the ivory handle but a wonderful little thing to own.
House clearance at parentβs house is still throwing up the odd gem. Today I found an opisometer by Elliott Brothers of London. Itβs used for measuring maps. C19th with an ivory handle and a nice leather case.
Rainbow over the garden 5 mins ago. Love it
My dentist appt got cancelled and the weather has been glorious so I managed 10 mins in the garden post work for the first time this year. Oh that feels so good
Dated on the back at being bought in Croydon in Jan 1960
Hmm. I wonder if this is still valid. Perhaps I shall try my local Boots and see what they say
After forgetting my glasses so I couldnβt see my computer in the office and also hitting myself in the face with a sewing machine cover, I have decided today is a non starter. Iβve come home and am having tea with jammy dodgers. I deserve it.
Got to the point in the sale of my parentsβ house where we want to sell, the buyer wants to buy and the buyers solicitor seems intent on wrecking the process for everyone. Not a happy bunny. βΉοΈ
Hero llamas stop a thief. Letβs have more llamas on patrol. metro.co.uk/2026/02/08/c...
Went out exploring the Amber Valley in Derbyshire today and their new duck trail. Very much enjoyed Belper (crazy busy) and Ripley (much quieter). Nice to see the sun as well.
Loving the team luge relay at the Winter Olympics. Who knew you could do a luge relay?
Thatβs the plan
#adoorablethursday with some fancy ironwork
You know youβre part of the village when people randomly turn up on your doorstep at 9pm with a newt they found in their kitchen. π¦ It now has a new home at the bottom of our garden, next to a pile of bricks and a small pond #newts #villagelife
Watching a man dressed as a Minion, ice dance to music from the Minions.
Now THIS is the Olympics! π
Yes. But that was after the argument between parents over whether the coffee came before the cake or after π
Everyone gets that so donβt worry. Youβll get there. You sound way more organised than we were π
A good date. We got married on 31st May. Good time of year. Sounds like youβre well organised. Well done!
Whenβs the big day?
Watching luge. Theyβre doing over 120km/h on a tea tray. Noooo. How can they do that? Incredibly brave? Or mad? #winterolympics
I am designed to operate at 17 degrees plus / minus 2 degrees. Outside that range. Nope. Not a hope.
It appeared here for 2 minutes, blinding everyone, then vanished. I have no idea what it was.
Itβs wooden. With bits falling off it. Iβd send the whole lot to charity but for fear of throwing the baby out with the bathwater. I was never very good at art appreciation.
It came with a very ornate frame. Maybe thatβs saleable. I have no idea.
