Reports indicate that the Polish authorities have been hostile to humanitarian efforts by residents, activist and volunteers, and in some instances human rights defenders have been prosecuted
Amnesty's 2022 research found that #Poland has been violating the rights of people at this border, including by conducting unlawful & forced returns
From 2021 to the end of 2023 at least 55 people were reported to have died due to lack of medical care, malnutrition and exhaustion
The new law effectively allows "pushbacks" at the border, empowering border guards to disregard asylum claims without considering people’s circumstances
The law is inconsistent with the #EU law, grossly exceeding the powers granted in situations of “instrumentalization” under the EU Regulation.
