With Microsoft announcing their AI plans for future Windows versions, this /v/ comic from 15 years ago got a whole lot more relevant.

We live in a technological oligarchy.
Musk owns X, now Oracle’s owner
a right wing oligarch worth $380 billion is reportedly buying TikTok and his son is working to buy Warner Brothers Discovery the parent of CNN. Real news voices will be drowned out by ideologues!

Spain’s broadcaster RTVE has confirmed that it will not participate in Eurovision next year if Israel is allowed to take part.

This is big. Spain is one of the Big 5 countries that contribute the most financially to the contest.

No one gave a shit if a gay man was lonely navigating a homophobic society. No one gave a shit if a woman was lonely in an abusive marriage. No one ever gave a shit if the Black kid in a white school was lonely.

But we all need to care about straight white men being lonely.

Miss me with this bs.

The South Downs National Park is on my doorstep. I went for a late evening dog walk there last night to watch the thunder clouds form and the sunset. A truly beautiful sky beneath which the warm breeze blew and the birds sang at the close of day. 😊

In 1886 Vincent van Gogh left his native Holland and settled in Paris, where his beloved brother Theo was a dealer in paintings. Van Gogh created at least twenty-four self-portraits during his two-year stay in the energetic French capital. This early example is modest in size and was painted on prepared artist’s board rather than canvas. Its densely dabbed brushwork, which became a hallmark of Van Gogh’s style, reflects the artist’s response to Georges Seurat’s revolutionary pointillist technique in A Sunday on La Grande Jatte—1884. But what was for Seurat a method based on the cool objectivity of science became in Van Gogh’s hands an intense emotional language. The surface of the painting dances with particles of color—intense greens, blues, reds, and oranges. Dominating this dazzling array of staccato dots and dashes are the artist’s deep green eyes and the intensity of their gaze. “I prefer painting people’s eyes to cathedrals,” Van Gogh once wrote to Theo. “However solemn and imposing the latter may be—a human soul, be it that of a poor streetwalker, is more interesting to me.” From Paris, Van Gogh traveled to the southern town of Arles for fifteen months. At the time of his death, in 1890, he had actively pursued his art for only five years.

8 panel comic

Panel 1: Yellow guy is working on a laptop in the background. In the foreground is a Brand Manager.
Yellow Guy: “Sir, shall I put up our rainbow profile picture?”

Panel 2: Brand Manger snaps his head round and hisses “Cool your jets, Eugene. I’m checking the Profitometer”

Panel 3: Gonna do my best to explain this. We see The Profitometer. A huge machine that whirs and ticks. A digital display at the top of the machine reads “Supporting Pride equals”Beneath this display is a huge gauge with “Max Loss” on the left and “Max profit” on the right. There is a needle that is pointing exactly half way between the two extremes.

Panel 4: Close up on Brand Manager’s face. His teeth are gritted. Sweat trickles down his brow.

Panel 5: Close up on gauge. The needle remains exactly central

Panel 6: Close up on Brand Manager’s eyes. They are concentrating intensely. Also, more sweat.

Panel 7: Close up on the gauge. The needle clicks ONE DEGREE towards profit

Panel 8: Brand Manager screams like a football coach “GO GAY EUGENE”

3 Screenshots from the movie "The Time Machine" (2002): First, a man in Victorian attire with long hair and a serious expression operates an elaborate, brass and glass time machine. Second, a close-up of the time machine's rotating date dials shows the year set to 2030 and the month to May. Third, the man stands in a futuristic city plaza filled with people and modern bicycles, beneath a billboard that reads "THE FUTURE IS NOW."
