Like on an individual basis, if I'm playing SCH the situation might require more focus on healing or nuking, but I would be expected to be able to do both. XI doesn't have builds in the same way that Dark Souls does where you can have a DEX or bleed build, for example.
I'll play devil's advocate and say that XI doesn't have builds either (unless we wanna talk about sub-jobs and party comp) because at the high-end you're just expected to have everything. Like if I have a WAR in my party, they're probably using savage blade and naegling.
