I also can't express how annoying traffic signals with full sentences are to me ahahah
Also, the examples the article lists cause the exact opposite reaction for me: give me exact wattages for microwaves and exact temperatures for washing machines! ahahahah What is hot water supposed to be? Hot for what? Showering? Is it 40, 60 or 90 degrees Celsius?
I have 999 problems, and each of them is one of 999 simulations.
I think my rent should be enough to cover the expense of an electric oven paired with a gas cooktop (it is in 100% of rentals in Italy, so... 😂)
I can't whip eggs by hand, I am not able to... And the gas oven doesn't cook as well as an electric oven: the heat comes mostly from below and doesn't spread equally.
Assuming that the US is the technological frontier may be plausible... until you look for/at kitchen appliances.
I am looking for one single machine that can whip eggs and chop onions. I thought we had globally learnt how to build those. Also, btw, explain why gas ovens are not extinct. 😭
US paperwork is always "yeah it doesn't matter, it's just a formality" and then they ask you to review the thing 10 times until you do *precisely* and *exactly* what you had to do... which they didn't explain you in advance because "it doesn't really matter"
Either it does matter or it doesn't 😵💫
Buon 25 Aprile
Buona Festa della Liberazione

It's ame Emilia.
TSA agent asked where I was going and followed up with the question "back home or..." when I answered Oakland. Then I ordered a bagel and went back to being Emilia instead of Miriam because of my accent 🙈😂
1 a 1 palla al centro
I am teaching the class on political selection, accountability and corruption tomorrow. I wrote the syllabus months ago, now I am like
Call it by its name: Trumpcession
Weary Ben Affleck standing, holding a cigarette
Live footage of academia right now
"Why nations fail"... I didn't think I would have lived the book in real life.
I have a lecture scheduled tomorrow on "selection of politicians" in my political economy class.
I am kind of new to this country... Is it common to have testimonials in this type of speech? It's basically a tv ad with the disclaimer "real life customers paid for their testimonial"
That's not what I call cute city center 😂 if it's home-only it's already less cute by construction
5 things that I did last week:

This is really smart by @sanders.senate.gov Go to republican districts and push voters to pressure their republican reps.

Uhm... There are a lot of rich people and very few cute city centers 😂
Teaching a course in political economy is pretending to be an expert in 20 different subfields you barely knew anything about before preparing the slides.
Urban beauty is illegal... Yeah, it makes sense.
Today we launched our Junior Seminars with Luca Bagnato (University of Milan).
He presented a joint work with @venturinimiri.bsky.social (@ucriverside.bsky.social) and Yu Pan (UZH) on the long-term impact of rice weeders' historical presence on female political-economic empowerment in Italy

How do you suggest gently to students that if they want to cruise through college using AI for their assignments they might at least first move to a country with lower tuition fees?
Why are they even paying some 40 to 70k? For what?
First exam as a professor and I am more nervous than if I had to take the exam myself 🙈
I have a confession

I was an “overhead cost”.
I was a beaker washer, agar plate pourer, research secretary. I was paid by “overhead cost” fees. Loved it.
Those “overhead cost” jobs allowed this rural kid to become a physician.
Please tag how #OverheadCostJob impact u.
It's particularly striking to be teaching the importance of institutions for economic development, while watching the government dismantle them piece by piece 😅

Also, I love the line "don't take drug X we are advertising if allergic to drug X we are advertising"
I hope that MDs manage to limit this. This is the weirdest part for me... Instead of targeting MDs prescribing drugs they target the general population that should ask their doctor for that specific drug without knowing anything about medicine 🙈
