These booksβwhich share stories of real and fictional people and animals who have endured wildfiresβcan provide information and comfort to children and teens.
Just so youβre aware, every library in LA is offering free masks right now due to the fires. Another reason to love libraries! Letβs hope they continue after the fires are over. Masks save lives in many ways.

Thank you libraries & library workersβ¦ for everything β¨π
By consciously choosing not to have books that may be considered contentious or inappropriate in their collections, libraries are removing patrons right to choose to read the book or not. ππ
If school librarians are given the chance, we teach this too. Unfortunately, we're not always given that opportunity.
REMINDER
not only do I do free virtual author visits for any school or library BUT
-if you DO have a guest budget you'd rather spend elsewhere I'll charge what you tell me to and donate it where it needs to go
-if there's a topic you aren't allowed to talk about I'LL bring it up and take the blame
Our January cover: Librarians and Allies Must Act to Secure the Future of Libraries
I hereby declare by the power vested in me as a full-fledged librarian that any New Year's resolutions involving books are granted the power of flexibility to modify based on everchanging life circumstances.

Iβm the kind of librarian who doesnβt care how many books you read this year, as long as youβre pro literacy and accessible library spaces for all and anti book banning and spreading misinformation.
If you donβt have a library card go get one. Even if you donβt plan on using it right away, go get one. Keep our libraries alive.
School libraries are a place of refuge. Students come to my library every day because it's their safe space. #SchoolLibrariesMatter
Libraries give us a lot more than just books; such as support programs, job help, tech resources, and even community outreach. Theyβre kind of a big deal.

Not censorship.

the quality and range of services public libraries provide relative to what they cost is nothing short of a miracle imo. But yeah, sure, βrun government like a business.β π
Do not obey in advance. Most of the power of authoritarianism is freely given. In times like these, individuals think ahead about what a more repressive government will want, and then offer themselves without being asked. A citizen who adapts in this way is teaching power what it can do.
Library folk, in the face of censorship remember Timothy Snyder's advice in On Tyranny and *Do not obey in advance*
