This space would only be there on the R1T, which they sell significantly less of than R1S, a max+ pack wouldn't be cost effective. And that space is for the great tunnel. Now if the R1S just used the wheelbase as the T, that could've made sense.

My hope.. It's where the cameras will live, making the windshield significantly less expensive to replace. Maybe LiDar in the future as the cost and supply chain has improved.

The challenge, Model Y and many legacy auto options are under $50k. They need a dual motor that can land at this price or they are not going to get the adoption. A launch edition with performance added, a couple accessories, limited color, any wheel option.. Could be over $60k

We'll see what these $45K model will truly be when the configurator goes online. Model Y just hit $45K with single motor w/o reducing battery, or features (yet)..before tax credit. Ford Mach-E can get under $40K w/o having tax credit ..stiff competitive market for R2 launch.
