Gladys Mae West obituary: mathematician who pioneered GPS technology She made key contributions to US cold-war science despite facing huge barriers as a Black woman.

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

I want 26 full episodes, I want merchandising, I want full coverage advertising. Sort it, stat.

This is the most wonderful thing I've seen in a while. So many affectionate little sight gags. Brilliant work, @ejvanmelle.bsky.social (and thanks to @starkholborn.bsky.social for pointing me at it).

You know Alex Pretti & Renee Good—the 2 white people ICE killed.

ICE has also killed Keith Porter, a Black man, Parady La, a Cambodian man, & 5 Latinos—Heber Sanchaz Domínguez, Victor Manuel Diaz, Luis Beltran Yanez-Cruz, Luis Gustavo Nunez Caceres, and Geraldo Lunas Campos.

9 TOTAL.

ABOLISH ICE.

I just found out last night that the $50k enrollment bonus only pays out after 5 years of service, and reader, the laugh I let out when I read that woke the dog from across the house. These absolute fucking grapes aren't seeing a dime of that money. No way they can ride out 5 years of this job.

Fox Producer: Jesse Watters would like to invite you on his show

AOC: He has sexualized and harassed me on his show.

FP: That’s not true

AOC: He accused me of wanting to sleep with Stephen Miller. So why don’t you tell me what you think is acceptable to tell a woman.

Richard Carpenter deserves so much appreciation. Possessed of an excellent imagination married to a fascination with history, he came up with CATWEAZLE, THE GHOSTS OF MOTLEY HALL (of which GHOSTS was an unattributed reboot and no one can tell me different), and ROBIN OF SHERWOOD. He was brilliant.

[The ITV Robin of Sherwood series is the most significant change in how Robin Hood stories were told in a good couple of hundred years, and have shaped every one since, including viewing Richard as a shit.]

It's all about the bailout, isn't it? Techbros are gadflies on the flank of the global economy, taking without giving anything but spectacular levels of irritation, parasites who won't shut up about how lucky you are to be parasitised by them.

Richard Malengine was being taunted by a turkey.
The turkey was profoundly dead at the time – slaughtered, plucked
and hanging from a hook outside Burley the Butcher’s shop in Magdalene Court. Thus, its taunting was a very passive thing, but nevertheless, taunt it did.
Malengine, a former actor turned master criminal in a series of events too unlikely to recount here, looked up at the turkey and scowled. He was a tall man, with a thin aesthetic face, and if he looked disreputable in his worn winter coat and crooked top hat, that is because he was.

He stamped his feet in the snow in an effort to keep them warm.
“I thought,” said the man by his side, “bein’ a master criminal and all meant you’d never be skint, guv.”
This was Harris, Malengine’s sidekick and general skivvy, wrapped in his overcoat and scarf, steaming gently beneath a stained bowler hat.
“I am temporarily monetarily embarrassed,” said Malengine, his gaze never leaving the turkey. “The business with the forged Vermeer
did not work out quite as well as expected.”
“You got chased up Charing Cross road by an auction room full of dealers,” said Harris,

“Yes. Not quite as well as expected.” Malengine sighed. “It’s going to be a thin sort of Christmas, I fear, Harris. Two days to go and we barely have two farthings to rub together.”
“Fear not, my darlings,” said a voice behind them, causing Malengine to jump and Harris to lurch very slightly.

The only “peace plan” that makes sense is the one from Sanna Marin, Finland’s former Prime Minister:

“The way out of the conflict is for Russia to leave Ukraine. That is the way out of the conflict.”

Didn't get word bubbles for Godzilla and Anguirus's final chat as they wandered off towards the horizon. I suspect something like:
GODZILLA: Well, you were fucking useless. Leaving you on Monster Island next time.
ANGUIRUS: Yeah, and fuck you, too, you showboating bastard.
GODZILLA: Love you.

Behind him, Harris looked at the silhouetted profile of his employer – in the special sense of somebody who gives you work to do and pays you as and when he can – with something that approached as close to dismay as his brick-like personality would allow. He'd stuck with Malengine through thick and increasingly thin for reasons that touched both on inertia and an irrational belief that the actor was bound for a greatness far beyond anything Harris could dream of for himself. This was nothing as shallow as reflected glory, but rather the duty of a squire to a knight errant. Perhaps he would end shattered by a blow from a giant's club, or die in some awful wilderness, which is to say, anywhere outside London. But it would be a destiny fulfilled, and Harris was proud to be the only one in his family ever to have a destiny to fulfil, as opposed to merely a criminal record or rickets.

One of these days I'll finally place this novel. It's not bad, I think. #RichardMalengine

"It might take our producers five minutes to find 60 economists who feared
Brexit and five hours to find a sole voice who espoused it.
But by the time we went on air we simply had one of each; we presented this unequal
effort to our audience as balance.
It wasn't."
Emily Maitlis,
former BBC Newsnight presenter

A mother of 8 was deported within 24 hours of reporting sexual harassment by an ICE contracto

She was following the rules & going through the process to get her green card

Someone working on behalf of ICE abused her.

She spoke out and was kicked out of the country.

It’s retaliation & it’s wrong
