The GOP won despite (or because of) the base constantly tearing down all of their own politicians except Trump. The resulting lockstep conformity may not have the exact ideological outcome they all want. but there’s something for everyone and no denying it’s effective.

He is awful, his policies are awful, and it doesn't matter if he'd be "better" than Trump.
