Suits near this era started to get smaller and lighter in armor, in exchange, they become faster and more dynamic. Physically this one is a smaller suit, the one we can see has a shade of navy blue in the main torso and top of the shoulder armor, and mainly white in the rest of the body, with red details in the front skit and wrist. It's main detail is the Jolly Roger skull in it's forehead, and the back-thrusters, that spread on an X shape. The one in the illustration it's wearing a cape, and holding the Zambuster on it's hand. The Crossbone has high thruster power, as it was created to fight against the Jupiter Empire, and has to endure the gravitational pull of the planet. It's specialized for close combat. It's armory includes the the basic vulcans, but it also adds the Zanber, a high level beam saber that resembles a pirate's Cutlass. The Buster Gun, ressemblig a flintlock pistol, a pair of heat daggers, a pair of beam sabers, a beam shield, and a scissor anchor, stored in the front skirts, to claw objects or enemies.

Personal unit of Axis leader Haman Karn, and fielded near the end of the Gryps Conflict and the First Neo Zeon War (Gundam Z/Gundam ZZ). The Qubeley was a great advancement, being one of the first units fully developed to be used by Newtypes. It's mean weapons consist of a group of either 10 or 12 "funnels", mannered by the pilot using the Psycommu System. Haman's unit is pretty much white in color, with violet/pink details troughout. The most recognizable details are its broad and big shoulder armors, enlarged head, large fingers and very pointy feet and knees.

You do not "gotta hand it" to Robotech. Literally the rest of the world was getting imported anime all throughout the 70s and 80s. Sure they might not have been the most faithful dubs but they weren't homunculi trying to pass themselves off as domestic creations.
