For my Caucus Monday weather story for The New York Times, I did the most Iowa thing I could possibly do β€” I referenced Field of Dreams. www.nytimes.com/live/2024/01...

Although I spoke to a few folks who planned to caucus for Mr. Ramaswamy throughout the day, many were on the fence and thinking of him as a number two to Mr. Trump, including Robert Johanningmeier of Waukon.

At Mr. Ramaswamy's last stop, he annouced an endorsement from Steve King, the former Iowa congressman who was pushed out of office after his history of racist comments.

One voter told me he thought Mr. Ramaswamy had set himself up well, should something happen with former president Donald Trump’s candidacy. β€œIf Trump were to drop out, then Vivek would most likely get a lot of Trump’s followers."

Yesterday, I followed presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy across Eastern Iowa, and took a hard look at why he's still in this race β€”Β and at who's still supporting him. www.nytimes.com/2024/01/03/u...

Why is the DC pandas traveling first class back to China with 300 lbs of bamboo reminding me of when NASA suggested women take 100 tampons to space for a one-week flight? Do they need all that bamboo?!

The Real Story Behind Labor Day & Why It Still Matters Now Have we forgotten the history and significance behind Labor Day? This year, more than ever, we need to remember.

As a reminder of what Labor Day is ~actually~ about, I always come back to this piece by @whizy.bsky.social. It’s a few years old but still totally relevant. Sadly, we still have a long way to go in terms of equity and fair wages for all in the working world.

"I Don't Think I've Ever Cried That Hard:" The Toll Of Excluding Nonbinary Students From Sororities "I wouldn't have been comfortable coming out without the support from the people around me in my chapter. I always felt comfortable, but this new lack of support is hard to grapple with.”

I asked the National Panhellenic Conference if they're planning to vote on the status of nonbinary students joining sororities any time soon, and a spokesperson told me: β€œThe agenda for the next meeting has not been set.” I'll be watching for updates. www.refinery29.com/en-us/sorori...

I also spoke to Grant Sikes, a nonbinary student who blew up on #BamaRushTok last year, but who was cut from recruitment on Pref Day. She believes that "without a doubt" her nonbinary identity had to do with her rejection.

In one case Β β€” at my alma mater, actually β€”Β the ~campus~ Panhellenic Council actively included nonbinary students by passing a bylaw allowing them to join... But then Nationals (The National Panhellenic Conference) stepped in and made them reverse the bylaw, students told me.

If you were obsessed with #rushtok, but were waiting for the other shoe to drop, do I have a story for you. For months, I've looked into how sororities leave out nonbinary students. www.refinery29.com/en-us/sorori...

Apocalyptic thought of the day: What if one day this app is the only blue sky we know?

Amazing reporting from the Washington Post's Hannah Natanson, who looked at requests to ban books in more than 100 school districts across the country, and found that the majority of them were filed by .... 11 people.

Entered a rooftop bar, sat down, and immediately knew I was in LA because I had the perfect view of the Church of Scientology.

I’m interested in any alternative to El*n’s Tw*tter… but… I just know I’m going to have β€œMr. Blue Sky” stuck in my head for hours every time I open this app. Will that be an improvement on my regular thought patterns? Perhaps!
