4/ There's also the issue of passing on substantial costs of dealing with nuclear waste to future generations who will be dealing with other substantial costs as part of our legacy
3/ Estimating the cost of nucear waste is difficult because the process can extend over centuries and right now our future is becoming more uncertain in many ways (climate, environment, security, political)
www.ejp-eurad.eu/publications...
2/ One analysis says the volume of waste produced by small modular reactors may be up to 35 times higher per kilowatt hour generated than large reactors and the type of waste generated will be more complex and more expensive to manage
www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...
1/ Modular reactors increasingly touted as a solutuon for Ireland, nuclear waste is still (for me) the biggest issue. Here the proponent says "The much lower cost of waste handling is built into the new technology" ??? But costs may in fact be higher.......

Don’t think self sufficiency is what people are looking for- during winter you can charge batteries on night rate mains supply and use it at peak rate times or as back up power during a storm. Many people have solar+batteries & oil or solid fuel heating- and need electricity for the circulation pump
Increased investment came in last government- but Regional Independents now converted "That's what we need to continue doing. We need to make sure that people have an active life and active travel...we need to make sure there's Safe Routes to Schools for rural schools, as well as our town schools.
