It wasn't my first ever playthrough, but I did get a random shiny Cyndaquil in HeartGold. It's why I started shiny hunting in the first place!

4 out of my first 5 hunts were all below 100 encounters in Gen 4.
4 of my last 5 have gone over 15000 (the last 2 totalling 60k combined) in Gen 3.
I'm now ready for my luck to swing back round. Hopefully you get it quicker than you think.
