NYT: In war’s first week, a punishing military campaign with no coherent endgame
I spend a lot of time criticizing the U.S. media’s failures to confront the fascist regime. But I think the NY Times and other outlets are showing serious skepticism about this appalling war. The coverage is far less sycophantic than in the Iraq war, for example. They need to keep exposing the lies.
Kristi Noem personally approved all DHS contracts over a certain threshold.
But before the contracts reached her, they had to be approved by political appointees. Lewandowski was typically the last to OK a contract before Noem, DHS officials said.
What? Is the VOA coming back to life? Can all the destruction wreaked by Kari Lake be undone?

Why it matters: U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth's ruling means that U.S. Agency for Global Media acting CEO Kari Lake can't lay off 532 people, most of its staff, on Tuesday as scheduled amid a wider legal battle.
#Contempt order possible.
This is a major victory for those suing Kari Lake and USAGM, coming a year after the ruthless destruction of the Voice of America, a beacon of US public diplomacy as an independent broadcaster in nearly 50 languages. Only a façade remains in a few languages, pumping out administration propaganda.
This is some lazy ass logic.
Politics isn’t a fucking game.
Lawrence Freedman: "If Russia has all the cards, why has it achieved so little?"
"in the past year Russia suffered roughly 400,000 casualties, including killed, wounded and missing, to acquire around 0.8 percent of Ukrainian territory."

Reporter: Did the US bomb an elementary school and kill 175 people?
Trump: Based on what I’ve seen, it was done by Iran.
Reporter: Is that true Mr. Hegseth?
Hegseth: We’re investigating.
Trump: They are very inaccurate with their munitions. It was done by Iran.
Fuck off moron.
You chose wrong. Own it.
You don't hate the media enough.
This morning, Trump posted batshit crazy, psychotic nonsense. He falsely claimed that Iran had apologized to its neighbors. He said Iran had surrendered, so, Trump would bomb them until they surrender (??!!)).
This is how KTLA of Los Angeles sanewashed that:

A Saturday scoop from @schuylermitchell.bsky.social: Previously unreported documents show that DHS wants to build a tool that would track personal travel data, including passenger names and their itineraries. Last year, a similar program was shuttered over public outcry.
People got real mad at Biden for looking at his watch during a dignified transfer.
Looking forward to the same outrage at Trump for wearing a fucking hat

I wrote almost exactly this word for word in January: www.wired.com/story/donald...
As a professor of it, I once had to describe — in a single sentence — where authority originates in journalism.
Goes like this:
"I'm there, you're not, let me tell you about it."
In times of war it applies most. www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7e3...

To clarify this: the context is college sports. Trump is saying that Russia helping Iran target Americans in a war is less important than the pay structure for athletes.
I like this Ben Stiller fellow. When he made a movie in Wilmington, Ohio, he was nice to people. And look — he stands up for himself rather than allowing himself to be ritually humiliated.

Last month, 22-year-old Damaris Bello’s mother attended a green card interview—and was deported less than 24 hours later.
Before the officers could handcuff her, Maria Estrada Juarez asked if she could hug her daughter one last time.
Sure USA Today, Trump is going to save Cuba’s economy.
From crisis he created.
Cmon!
20/ Even before this ruling landed, Russian advertisers have been fleeing Telegram. This has already caused a collapse in advertising revenue for Russian warbloggers' channels and fundraising efforts for the army. /end

1/ The Russian government has dealt another body blow to Telegram by suddenly declaring all advertising on the app to have been illegal since 1 September 2025. Thousands of Russian bloggers and advertisers now face retroactive fines of up to 500,000 rubles ($6,308) per advert. ⬇️
