Super Mario World was shown in early screenshots to have a mushroom-shaped overworld. However, development files show that this concept went much further. The mushroom island eventually connected to a large mainland. It is unknown why such an elaborate overworld was completely scrapped.

yeah what happened is due to input being seemingly random, almost all inputs are either (1) grid is so large that you can just place however you want, or (2) the pieces have more cells than the grid, making it trivially impossible. I expect my solution to run forever on hand-crafted inputs
