"Cars are the most absurd means of transport in a city. They are parked 95 per cent of the time. It takes two tonnes to move someone who weighs 70 kilogrammes. And the denser the city, the more absurd it is."

Not to mention the awful example it sets to others and the hypocrisy of stating goal of reaching net zero by 2050 in its own Climate Action Plan but choosing demolition rather than retrofitting. Dublin Inquirer had recent article stating the CEO's quote for retrofitting was grossly exaggerated
Shouldn't this key Dublin institution remain as central as possible, and ideally on the Liffey, which is the physical and symbolic spine of the city. Not moving further into the southside, adding to the neglect of the city centre? But interested to hear more informed views than my own on this.

Book: The Good Building Book, by Jon Broome, Nick Grant
Did not have the time to really read it because I am ill. What I can say so far:
The book has the little and big architectural details you expect but critically commented with laser-focused wisdom without being overly mocking. I could never do that so calm, so hats off to @ecominimalnick.bsky.social
NEW: Before the Iran War, Trump ignored warnings that Iran could retaliate across the region and stop oil shipments. Now, with energy markets in chaos, some aides are pessimistic about the lack of a strategy to end the war. But they haven't told Trump. Gift link: www.nytimes.com/2026/03/10/u...
Reaching net zero by 2050 is often framed as a cost burden.
The UK Climate Change Committeeβs latest analysis suggests the opposite.
The real risk is fossil fuel dependency.

An orange line-art illustration on a textured white background. The illustration depicts a hand holding a power cable that morphs into a lightbulb outline. Inside the lightbulb, a small plant with two leaves grows from the wire. The plug of the cable features the European Unionβs circle of stars. To the right, the text reads: "European energy: built for the planet, priced for the people." The logo of the European Commission is visible in the bottom right corner.
Rising oil prices and uncertainty make homegrown clean energy transition more urgent than ever.
Today, we presented a new set of initiatives to boost clean energy investment, strengthen Europeβs energy independence, and help lower energy prices, including β¬οΈ

How much more evidence do we need? The ultra-rich and the governments supporting them will destroy everything for the sake of profit, power and pride. Nothing is precious to them - not human life, not the living world - except their own wealth and status. Our survival depends on resisting them.

The most important initiative in debunking manipulation, lies and untruths concerning humanist-oriented urban planning and well-being.
Let's all support it.
Each of us can be the target of attacks by conspiracy theorists, and it is together, with the urban truth, that we will face them.
Go ahead!

Rising energy prices are pushing up inflation, especially in economies dependent on imported fossil fuels.
The durable solution is structural: improve efficiency, accelerate electrification and scale up renewables.
Energy policy is economic policy.
