His legacy here will endure โ not just in policies or projects, but in the example he set of how to serve with dignity, humility, and heart.
Few leaders leave this kind of imprint. Fewer still leave it with grace.
And those of us who have worked alongside him are better for having witnessed what principled leadership actually looks like in practice.
Dean is, quite simply, one of the finest human beings I have known.
This decision, like everything Dean does, is rooted in clarity and care. Public service is noble work โ but so is knowing when to rebalance, when to honour family, and when to protect what matters most. That, too, is leadership.
Saanich is stronger because of him.
...or the minutes. And I have seen Dean meet those demands with an uncommon steadiness โ guided not by ego or expedience, but by integrity. Not rhetorical integrity โ the real kind. The kind that shows up when no one is watching; unwavering under pressure.

I have seen, up close, what this job asks of a person. I have seen the hours, the weight, the private costs that never make the agenda...
The quality of service @deanmurdock.bsky.social has given Saanich is extraordinary. Over decades, he has chosen the harder path again and again: telling the truth when it would have been easier not to; making decisions that served the long term rather than the next headline...

The advent of a โcontent creatorโ pass for next weekโs convention marks a new chapter in the Conservative partyโs embrace of the influencer movement โ and rhymes perfectly with Trump's White House and Pentagon media strategy. Reporting by @arnokopecky.bsky.social in @nationalobserver.com
Family members say the manย killed by a U.S. Border Patrol officerย in Minneapolis on Saturday was an intensive care nurse at a Department of Veterans Affairs hospital who cared deeply about people and was upset byย President Donald Trumpโs immigration crackdownย in his city.
They murdered an icu nurse.
Itโs important to bear witness to whatโs happening
I believe that in my bones, even for those of us watching from afar
Minnesotaโs justice system will have the last word.

If โdemocracy dies in darknessโ one might ask why The Washington Post is recycling second-rate Arctic analysis circa 2009 to rationalize Donald Trumpโs unhinged fantasy of conquering Greenland.
I'd wager this is the angriest statement ever issued by the Nobel Peace Prize people...
