Are Britons really poorer than they were 20 years ago, or does it just feel that way? “Awful April” hasn’t helped people to feel good about their finances.

It also means addressing wider issues contributing to some struggling to afford food, including reducing the % of peoples income spent on housing. The average renter spent 30% of their income on this in 2024-2025.
