"good person" and "correct about a thing" aren't unrelated but they're not as well correlated as you'd maybe prefer

Yes everything is terrible but let’s not lose sight of the fact that someone has written the Headline to End All Headlines.

It presupposes that the felony murder rule exists, which it does. Acknowledging that this is what the law is is very different from saying that's what the law should be.

Right? And Bonney immediately picked up on that despite not even being part of the crew.

Your brain and data may be in the internet, a world that is both everywhere and nowhere. But your ass is still firmly planted in the jurisdiction of somebody's courts. And police.

Proton is correct. The odds of you finding a company that won't comply with its local police are basically zero.

I inadvertently learned that you could see private conversations in public chat rooms when using Telnet instead of a browser on GeoCities. I can tell you the difference in audible dial-up handshakes between 1200, 2400, 14.4 kbps modems. I needed a edu email address to join Facebook after my university was admitted. We were here at the beginning. We made social media. You wouldn't be in my Top 8. I have usernames older than you.

Well if this ain't just the 10th amendment fact pattern from hell. I don't see how the federal government can require a state to continue permitting someone to practice before its own courts consistent with the principle of divided sovereignty. public-inspection.federalregister.gov/2026-04390.p...

Screenshot of excerpt from opinion that reads:

"Despite this, the New York courts refused to stay the trial court’s order. After that highly questionable injunction was issued, the applicants filed appeals in both the Appellate Division (the State’s intermediate appellate court) and the Court of Appeals (its highest court) challenging the trial court’s order on federal constitutional grounds. At the same time, applicants asked both courts to stay the trial court’s order. The Appellate Division refused to issue a stay, and by order issued on February 11, the Court of Appeals sent the appeal filed in that court to the Appellate Division and dismissed applicants’ motions for a stay."

With nowhere else to turn, the applicants asked us to issue a stay, and we have jurisdiction to entertain their application. Title 28 U. S. C. Β§1257(a) gives us jurisdiction to review β€œ[f]inal judgments or decrees” that are rendered by a State’s highest court and adjudicate federal constitutional claims, and the Court of Appeals’ February 11 order falls
within that category.

1/9: In the New York redistricting case, Justice Alito's justification for why #SCOTUS even had *jurisdiction* to issue a stay is based upon a remarkably misleading portrayal of the state court proceedings.

I realize this is technical, but I wanted to write a short thread to explain the shadiness:

Yeah, mid '00s One Piece fansubbers made a lot of dumb choices. I still remember one that left words like "yosh" and "oi" untranslated, too.

03.03.2026 05:32 πŸ‘ 6 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

The One Piece fandom has had a bizarre obsession with that word ever since a fansub 20+ years ago left it untranslated in one scene because they couldn't figure out how to translate it.

03.03.2026 05:28 πŸ‘ 13 πŸ” 4 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 1

Pretty much, unless SCOTUS takes it up at some point, the rule stands (IMO probably correctly, although copyright isn't my area).

03.03.2026 01:17 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

It wouldn't have any effect. SCOTUS declining to hear a case doesn't carry any precedential value in either direction, and the Copyright Office has had a rule since 2022 that copyright requires human authorship.

Yeah this show is still pretty great. Was interesting to come back to because considering it came out in the middle of MAPPA crunching on multiple projects (which hasn't totally gone away though it seems like they're spacing them out a LITTLE better now) there was (1/2)

I'm not even sure what the connection there is supposed to be. Are people you don't know somehow not strangers because they're also writers?
