With nowhere else to turn, the applicants asked us to issue a stay, and we have jurisdiction to entertain their application. Title 28 U. S. C. §1257(a) gives us jurisdiction to review “[f]inal judgments or decrees” that are rendered by a State’s highest court and adjudicate federal constitutional claims, and the Court of Appeals’ February 11 order falls within that category.

Yeah, mid '00s One Piece fansubbers made a lot of dumb choices. I still remember one that left words like "yosh" and "oi" untranslated, too.

The One Piece fandom has had a bizarre obsession with that word ever since a fansub 20+ years ago left it untranslated in one scene because they couldn't figure out how to translate it.

Pretty much, unless SCOTUS takes it up at some point, the rule stands (IMO probably correctly, although copyright isn't my area).

It wouldn't have any effect. SCOTUS declining to hear a case doesn't carry any precedential value in either direction, and the Copyright Office has had a rule since 2022 that copyright requires human authorship.
