As an artist turned game dev, I think encouraging newer people to any craft to start small is the best way to do things.
It helps manage expectations.
Promotes learning instead of polishing turds.
And it builds momentum of actually finishing things rather than abandoning projects.

I totally agree! I currently have 1 big project and then take breaks every now and then to do game jams and I've been finding that works really well for me
