The colourless rainbow is marked on the outside of the plastic bag, so you see it due to light reflected off the bag. The coloured rainbow is on a sheet of paper inside the bag. At the angle it is filmed, the light inside the bag is totally internally reflected so you don't see inside the bag

PRIMARY TEACHERS! This "disappearing rainbow" works because of the way light is refracted and totally internally reflected - the same phenomena at play in the making of a real rainbow. It's a demonstration you can use to explore / explain rainbows to your students. More in the link below.

These LRCs are fascinating. Some people have the artful technique of being slightly ahead of the beat or a little late on purpose, creating the tension in the music, and it gets even better when others join in with their own LRCs. Some teachers place these in the breathing. Such a cool subject!

The Origins of Agar First introduced into laboratories in 1881, agar remains indispensable as a culture medium.

I’m embarrassed to find how little I knew, or thought, about Agarose. Despite its efficacy, ubiquity & essential nature in labs.
Nor did I know anything about Fanny Angelina (another example, whether intentional or not, of the Matilda Effect) & Walther Hesse.
This is absolutely fascinating.

A reminder of one of the loveliest pairs of siblings in the dictionary: ‘muscle’ and ‘mouse’. To the Roman imagination, the flexed biceps of a (typically naked) athlete resembled a rodent scuttling under the skin. ‘Musculus’, in Latin, means ‘little mouse’.

As one of the leading scientists in super-resolution microscopy and a truly remarkable individual, Markus is at the forefront of the field. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in the future of bioimaging!

I remade an old render with a more exact version. The most efficient packing possible of 17 squares into a larger square. I use it as an inspiring example: just because something looks stupid doesn't mean it's not the best that you can do.
