Milwaukee joins Angry Catfish Bike Shop and riders all over the country to ride in honor of Alex Pretti. We will meet at 1pm Saturday, January 31 at City Hall and do a Riverwest24 lap in his memory, and in the memory of all who have been murdered by the fascist regime.
Definitely a challenge with all of the traffic diversion off the freeway, unfortunately. I’ll see what we can adjust.

That is our new standard! I’m very happy with how they’re turning out. We are retrofitting those built with standard concrete to have “tornado” markings to improve visibility on existing raised crosswalks.

You basically guessed it, but it’s based on the purpose of the project and funding. In the case of 60th, the focus was reducing speeding. The road diet that added bike lanes was the most efficient way to do that, but adding bus islands over the 2 miles of the project would have exceeded the budget

Oh yeah, we’ll definitely be looking at tightening these stretches up as much as possible as part of the larger project. We are looking to experiment with “temp” left turn hardening (using plastic or rubberized materials) in a couple locations, but I can’t commit to starting here
I’ve noticed this happen occasionally too! That stop sign (westbound) has been there for five years and sometimes I think there’s still some people who haven’t noticed it or are pissed that it’s there.
This intersection is on the STH 32 project corridor for this stretch, so if you have ideas…
Oh, I would disagree that the improvements have been mostly cosmetic. The raised crosswalks are not as aggressive as I would prefer (State Highway), but as someone who drives over them at least a few times a week, they certainly encourage drivers to stay near the speed limit.
I’m also not interested in blaming the pedestrian; I shouldn’t have assumed that’s where you were going.

Not that I’m aware of. The barricades shown in the video are the standard City barricades that we use for road hazards, block parties, etc. They are reflective at night to headlights.

Yeah, both of those are on the steeper side of things. We will be adding better markings and signage this year yo make them a bit more obvious.

It’s a shame the old Grand Avenue Viaduct isn’t still standing, but as far as modern concrete replacements go, this one’s pretty great. (You’re on the Blue Mound Road bridge, looking north up the Menomonee River)
I would like to get back to a more robust curb painting program (yellow and red), but want to make sure we can do all of the crosswalks in the city at least once a year, first. Probably need another crew (2-3 staff) of painters to get there.
Maintenance staff capacity, unfortunately. The folks who paint our curbs are the same folks who do crosswalks. We should be repainting every crosswalk in the City at least once a year, but we’ve lately only had the staffing levels to get to 70-80% of the walks each year (1/2)
