In 2014, 4 tribes raised $9M to purchase back Pe’sla & worked with the federal gov to get the central prayer site & a 2-mile buffer zone into federal trust. This was to recognize the religious and cultural significance of the area and therefore protect it from harmful mining activity like PLS.

Are we really overdiagnosing mental illness? It’s tempting to dismiss the proliferation of labels as a fad, but there’s more to this phenomenon than a simple culture-war reading allows

In this article Lucy Foulkes misses the mark. It's not that we're "over-diagnosing mental illness", as she suggests, it's that we're over-medicalising & over-depoliticising widespread social suffering as requiring psych rather than structural solutions.

ICE has been targeting Indigenous business, resource centers, community hubs, etc in Minneapolis. They even targeted Little Earth of United Tribes, a residential housing community that has at least 98% Indigenous residents. It is where the four Oglala Lakota men they took were living.

Indigenous peoples have always moved freely across our lands, and that "medicine line," as some Indians call it, never was nor ever will be our border. Our territories, hunting grounds, fishing spots, blood relations, trading partners, and diplomatic ties long antedate the United States and Canada. And for the most part, being colonized by one settler state or the other is a distinction without a difference. Canada and America are both equally dangerous places to be Indigenous. Some might call it a mountain lion, others a cougar, still others a puma. But if you're prey, it's all the same.
